HRM

Cathlete
Hi All,

I did a search and found one that said Cathe doesn't use one and also that you can not tell how many calories you burn on a HRM.
Is this true? Can someone recommend one or two?

TIA

I use a Polar heart rate monitor. It does track the calories I burn, based on my heart rate, weight and fitness level (the latter calculated based on my resting heart rate and VO2max (max capacity for oxygen consumption).

Polar makes several models, which is helpful based on the number of features you are interested in.

here's a link to the products recommended for "fitness" activities (vs. running/cycling/other sports)

hope this was helpful

HRM's can tell you the calories you burn, but they are not 100% accurate. Wear three different HRM's and you'll get three different calorie counts. (I know, I have 3 different HRMs and if I run 5 miles, I'll get widely different results) So, I take what my HRM says with a grain of salt. I do use it to tell me the intensity of a workout (relative to each workout) and I've set a goal of a certain number of calories a week to meet based on what I think my intensity should be.
