Hi I'm an old mom, With a 20 yr old 16 and 3 all boys .Anyhow I would wait until at least 12 weeks or even 16 !Thats plenty of time !!!:)

I agree with Mary. I am 38 weeks pregnant. I didn't want anybody to know after finishing my first trimester, just in case I had a miscarriage. I thought it was easier to deal with if the least amount of people knew about it.
Bec. of my mornig sickness I had to be late few days, so I had to tell my immediate supervisor during my 3rd month. My boss was attacked by a patient and returned when I was 4 months pregnant and that's when I told him.
My sister in law is a teacher and she was out for an entire year after giving birth, luckly she had her job back for the following academic year.
If you know teachers from others schools, asked them how did they do it. Employers also appreciate when you give them enough time to plan for the following year, but be careful if you don't want a permanent substitution.
Good luck to you!;)

Thank you so much for your insights! I will definately wait awhile before telling. I am not planning on returning, so I do want to make sure they have ample time to find a great teacher for the kids. Thanks again.

I had morning (all day) sickness pretty bad so most of my office guessed that I was PG before I told them. I told my boss early (~10weeks) because I work with stuff that could be a risk to the baby so I needed to go through the occ-med dept to be able to avoid such exposures.
I would think that you should tell him/her before he/she finds out "through the grapevine". Other than that, I don't think it matters much.

I told everyone right away!!!:) I didn't wait!

I walked in the very first morning after I found out and told my boss. I didn't see any reason to purposely withhold the info. I'm not superstitious about telling anyone before the 3 month mark and he was going to have to find out eventually anyway so why not immediately? Besides I was sooo thrilled and excited I was hard pressed to keep my mouth shut to anyone! LOL...But that's just me...
You need to do what you think is best.

Have a great work out!

I told my boss right away. I couldn't keep my mouth shut! :) I shared my pregnancy test... yuck huh? We work in a family planning clinic so everyone is used to urine and pregnancy tests. :)

I considered waiting in case something happened with my first and third pregnancies... not because I am superstitious... just thougt, as DoctorJany, that it would be easier to deal with if the least amount of people knew about it. With the second, we didn't tell many people, but when I miscarried I needed and wanted support. I wish we would have shared the news... good and bad.

Autumn,

The way we told my SIL (and her family) our news was to leave my pregnancy test on the table at her house for her to "find". It was in a plastic baggy ofcourse. It ended up that her daughter (8 yrs old) saw it first and asked me what it was. I played dumb and told her to ask her mom. When my SIL first picked it up she had a confused look on her face but then she looked at me and quickly figured out what was going on. It was great. :)

Have a great work out!

LOL!! That is priceless! :) Well, I wasn't considerate enough to use a baggy. :)

You know, we should have set me up in a room for positive pregnancy test counseling and told my boss she was requested or something. My boss is a practical joker. She'll close all the doors to the patient rooms and place charts in the doors so when we return from lunch it looks like we are alreday behind. She is a stinker. She puts lub in my gloves... lowers my chair. We have a lot of fun.

With this last pregnancy, I was running late because DH ran to Walmart to pick up one of those pregnant/not pregnant tests. We couldn't believe it. Anyway, I called to let them know I was late and in a very serious... almost irritated tone... said "I'll explain when I get there". I tried to be very serious when I arrived and asked them into my office. They said, "what is going on?" I said, "I got some news this AM and pulled the tests out." They had been through all the infertility treatments and waiting, so it was a nice moment. :) One of them said she thought DH and I were in a fight or something 'cause I was so serious sounding. :) My friends gave some AWESOME belly rubs... oh, and I am a hands off my belly gal.
