how weights changed you

I love hearing success stories on how lifting weights changed your body. Anyone have some stories to share? How did weight lifting change your body, help you lose weight, keep your weight stable, make you feel, prevent an injury, etc.?

I've actually been on a weight training hiatus so I'm looking to this discussion to motivate me:)

i used to feel so intimidated by free weights. now i only workout at home. i never use 'machines' like at the gym. all those pieces that are only used for one part of the body. knowing i can do exercises just like the guys do is empowering. using free weights, punching a bag, a barbell (still need a lot of practice with that one). it gives me confidence. and improving my fitness does too. realizing what i can accomplish...it just makes me feel good.

Weights completely changed my body, I went from being always kind of heavy, like a size 12 or 14 for most of my adult life, down to an 8/10, it was quite a while ago now that I dropped those sizes, but I don't recall actually losing a lot of weight, but when people saw me after not seeing me for a while, everyone just kept saying how small I looked. I understand in a lot of circles a size 8/10 is not so small, and a skinny person I will never be. But the weights made me much more compact, I was just big and soft before.

I'm doing STS again right now, do you have STS? It's such a great program for weights.

Great Job Dela! I love hearing weight training success stories. I do have STS but only made it to Meso 2 and quit. I hope to revisit it eventually. I just ordered Supreme 90 and should recieve it this week.

Dela - there is nothing wrong with being an 8/10. Be proud that you have been able to consistently maintain that size - I know I am :)

Here's a before and after once I started real weights. (This is my trainer's website, scroll down.) The before pic is my starting pic for STS. I found STS to be ok, but I still wasn't going heavy enough to see changes. I honestly think that even with the 1RM calculator we tend to go too light on ourselves. My real changes came with weights MUCH heavier than I ever dreamed before.

Strength training in all of its forms has changed me in ways I could never imagine both physically and psychologically.

I can actually feel my muscles. Granted it is under a layer of fat but still I can feel that I actually have muscles now! When I flex in front of the mirror, I can see a bicep rather than just a big, thick arm from the elbow to the shoulder.

I love how strong I feel after lifting weights or doing a set of pushups on my toes. Just a year ago, I could barely do 12 knee pushups. Yesterday I was able to crank out 45 toe pushups without any breaks (most ever for me).

I love the comment my husband made the other day while I was doing assisted pull-ups. "Wow, look at those muscles!" For some reason, it means so much more when someone else notices your hard work.

I have STS but haven't started yet (May 1). I can't wait to have 3 days a week dedicted to lifting!
