How to stop the crazy voices

Melclear

Cathlete
Hi everyone. I mostly lurk and rarely post, but I find myself needing some positive encouragement today.

I just started Cathe's Jan 06 rotation, which is 90 minutes a day. I had been waiting a few days to start because of insomnia, but I finally got some sleep last night so I decided to start today. First day calls for Boot Camp, followed by 1st 5 intervals of IMAX2. I did BootCamp with no problem (did all but 1 of the Terminators, which is really good for me) but by the time I was doing the 3rd blast of IMAX2, I started feeling really tired and a little dizzy/nauseous. So I stopped, cooled down, did the BootCamp stretch.

And here's where the crazy comes in -- I feel like I failed today. For some reason, skipping those last 10 minutes makes me feel like I may as well have skipped the whole day. At 1 level, I recognize how ridiculous that is (Boot Camp is a tough workout anyway, and I should feel great for having survived that, let alone tacking on an extra 15 minutes of high impact, high intensity interval training etc). On the other hand, part of me feels like I will never reach my goals if I can't even make it through 10 more minutes.

You all have been a wonderful source of support and inspiration on this forum, and I'm hoping you will be kind enough to send some of that my way today.

Mel, Mel, Mel!!!! You did NOT fail! You succeeded beautifully. How many people could even do five minutes of Bootcamp, much less ALL of Bootcamp and most of Imax 2? IMHO, stopping because you are feeling nauseated and dizzy is very wise. We have to listen to our bodies, and yours was saying "okay, enough already with this Cathe chick":p

You WILL reach your goals. Please don't beat yourself up over listening to your body's signals and being wise enough to stop:)

Mel! I'm with Shelley. You did not fail! Holy cow! BootCamp AND 3 of the 5 intervals of IMax 2? Holy cow!! You should be so darned proud of yourself it's not even funny!!! And again I agree with Shelley that stopping when your body says to, is very wise! This is not easy stuff. You're doing wonderfully.

What everyone else said! I always struggle to get through boot camp, especially the terminators. No way I'd be able to add on IMAX anything. If you really feel you need to complete the workout, take a break and do the IMAX part later in the day. You absolutely did not fail. If anything, you set yourself a higher goal.

Mel,

I agree with the above posters (awesome job!), and just wanted to empathize. I struggle with that "all or nothing" thinking, too. It makes it hard to focus on your accomplishments. And chances are, you may have been dehydrated or undernourished for such a long, gruelling workout. Maybe for your next workout you could try drinking a bit more before/during the workout, or even having a light snack between workouts? (eg., a banana or an energy gel?)

You did great! Keep up the great work, and you'll see results before you know it.

Cheers,
Sandra

Heck, I can only make half way through IMAX2. How am I suppose to feel? I think you did spectacular.

I agree with Shelley 100%! You did a fabulous job! No failure there! That's a really intense workout and you should feel really accomplished and proud! Also remember, that some days we just don't have as much energy as other days. I have on many occassions stopped a workout early because my body was saying "Nope, not today!" Listening to it is the best thing you can possibly do. Great job!!!

Thanks everyone. Just what I needed to hear. I think Sandra is right, I get stuck in the "all or nothing" mindset. It's especially strong now -- DH and I have been living far apart because of my job for the last 6 months, and we get back together for good in 2 weeks. I had really high fitness goals for myself during that time (I don't know anyone where I am now, so much of my free time has been devoted to workouts). I really thought that in 6 months, I could look as buff and toned as Cathe. But I had a lot of weight to lose first, and while I definitely lost weight (4 sizes), built muscle, and totally increased my cardiovascular fitness, I still don't look buff (yet). And it's time to accept the fact that I can't magically do it all in 2 weeks. As you all say, it's a journey and I've covered a lot of ground.

Thanks for all your support. You all rock!

You are doing GREAT!!! You should be very proud of what you have achieved! 4 dress sizes...WOW!! Keep at it. Remember, Cathe is tough! If she were easy, we would not be doing her workouts! If you are doing it with ease, you are wasting your time! If easy workouts produced results, the world would be thin! My point is, every single one of us is challenged by Cathe, in some way or another. If she weren't a challenge, we would not bother.

Now, as for Cathe's buff bod...you need to keep in mind what a huge role a clean diet plays into the equation. Diet/proper nutrition is HUGE!

Mel,

No way have you failed! If you exercised, listened to your body and stopped when it told you too, that is success at it's best. Shoot, that was a killer workout you described!

Congrats on your success and I hope you stay on the forum.:)
