How to keep your calories down while eating what you want

Everyone,

I thought I'd share some tips with you about my eating habits. I basically eat whatever I want and don't diet (I hate low fat foods and can never imagine taking protein shakes, detoxification, eating no carbs and chicken with no skin etc.).

The way to avoid over indulgence is to eat the right food that balances out your nutritional intake. My favourite food is soup! Yes, that's right SOUP! Have any vegetable like tomatoes, carrots, butternut squash with no cream. If you can make soup, that's great because you can make them with the freshest vegetables and no additives and freeze them. The good thing about soup is that it's light, low fat, low protein and low carbs. I find when I have had a BK, pizza or anything like that for lunch or dinner follow it with soup for evening or lunch the next day.

The thing I have noticed is that after a heavy meal like that I've probably eaten too much heavy carbs and proteins and fats (more than my daily intake). Having soup and low fat yogurt or fruit is all the calories you need for the rest of the day. I usually do a good workout as well and still find that I am not quite hungry but peckish so don't want to go to bed on an empty stomach.

Soup is an excellent food that contains abundance vitamins and antioxidants and it's natural food (always eat natural if you can). It's good if you don't like calorie counting.

Just something I have discovered and would like to share.

Hi Yen:

A few years ago I read an article that said that people who ate soup before a meal were generally slimmer than those who didn't.

Well, I guess my over-cooked cauli, broc and other veggies could be called a soup! A good filler-upper!

Yes, soup is a fantastic food for weight loss. I keep intending to learn how to make soup, but haven't got round to it. Luckily in England there is an abundance of lovely fresh soup in the supermarket so I don't have to cook. I'd still prefer to make my own though so if you have any good recipes, please post them here.

Funny that you should post this - I've been really letting myself go with junk food on weekends. I've also found that veggie soup and a piece of fruit is all I want for the rest of the day when I've indulged in something like a pizza and ice-cream lunch. I also try and fit in something like Circuit Max on that day because I really feel energetic after a lot of junk. Must be all those calories or a sugar rush!

Yeah. You noticed too? I am glad I am not the only one. I think it's good to stick with soup until your body has fully digested all the junk (probably over a 48 hour period, but less if you workout as well).
