How to get rid of callouses

Sorry for the TMI everyone but I have really large callouses on the bottom of my big toes and the balls of my feet. I'm pretty convinced it's from my shoes rubbing against my socks when I do step workouts. They look nasty and hurt right after an intense workout. How can I get rid of them?!

Melissa,

I know folks here use and like the Pedegg. Personally, I just take an exacto knife to mine when they get bad enough they hurt. Even though they hurt when you workout, they don't have any feeling or pain when you shave them down. HTH!

Oh my Linda, . . . . that sounds scary as klutzy as I am I'd probably end up taking off a toe, . . .although my meathod is not that far from gruesome either. I use a cuticle clipper and a swedish foot file to remove them and then there is this foot balm thing that they sell at Target that works great esp on cracked heels. It is super strength and you have to use it all night long with socks on. My family thinks that when I trim my callouses that it is super gross. My kids will say "Mom's scraping her feet again." I can't say I disagree with them but if I let them grow to much they hurt more when I run. I used to dance ballet and those gosh darn pointe shoes really gave me bad feet.

You could go to a podiatrist who would cut them off, or you could get a pedicure. Usually, a pedicure gets rid of a lot of skin. Also, I found that wearing socks that are not 100% cotton helped me. I used to get blood blisters on the outsides of my big toes. When I got fitted for running shoes and got better socks, I stopped getting the blisters.

I use a pumice stone in the shower and Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Cream and socks at night.

I wear DeFeet socks that aren't too tight OR loose which causes rubbing both ways and that means irritation. Polyester or a super fine wool (SmartWool) works way better then cotton (and no bunching). Every night I smear on Paula's Choice 10% Alpha Hydroxy Body Lotion on my feet, not that its super-hydrating but it keeps them exfoliated and when I stopped using it for a few months, my calluses were building up again. The third tool in my arsenal is a foot file, I have a Diamancel foot file, but I really don't think its that much better then Dr. Scholls best at Target.

Cracked Feet

I have always had that problem!! I found that ped egg thing to be amazing - use it on dry feet- then follow with a thick footcream and socks at night- It works!!!:p
