How much weight do you use...more or less than Cathe?

When working out with Cathe, do you find you are using about the same weight as her or significantly less? Have you found that the amount you can lift goes up quickly or does it take over several months for this to happen? Just curious if I am just a wimp....(lol)....I am just getting started back, but even before, I could never lift even close to Cathe.

I can usually match or come close to Cathe's weight as of recent - after doing several heavy weight rotations including 2 rounds of P90x. prior to that, I used less weight than Cathe for quite some period of time (for years). I guess I just needed to build some muscle first.

I am sometimes amazed at how much weight she can handle for her small stature! I can match her in some lifts, but not in others. I like that she lets us know how much she's lifting so I can at least gauge my progress.

I use about the same or a little less than Cathe uses. Sometimes more as in the back section of PUB. I have been pushing myself to lift heavier so I'll try a heavier weight at first and if I'm struggling and losing form, then I will go down in weight.

Yeah, Cathe is tough, no doubt. I forget that she really is quite petite- sometimes it's hard to tell stature on camera.

and holy smokes- what about Amy Bento's Slo Mo??? Some impressive poundage there. The 1st time I tried Slo Mo, i tried to match Amy...... yeah, right.

If I have had a bought of "non exercise" weeks and am just getting back on track it is usually a little less.

When I have been consistent, I will usually match hers.

BUT, I am not looking to lift heavy, basically maintain strength and stay fit. Genetically I build muscle quickly but do not bulk - just look like I workout. In no way do I look as muscular as Cathe or the ladies that do the DVD's with her.

All in all, like others, I only use the weight she does as a gauge and lift what I need to accomplish my goal for the day.

But keep it up and you will be stronger and add more weight if you stick it out and stay consistent. Have fun !

I usually use less, very rarely but sometimes I can match Cathe. She is impressive!!

PS, my DF who works out with me struggles at times to match Cathe!;)

I match her weight for weight, and go quite a bit heavier with my freakishly strong triceps muscles! I have to use heavier weights usually (in the heavier weight workouts only) in order to get the muscles fatigued, otherwise what's the point if the weight does not challenge you?
I could go heavier with legs too, but do not have access to a squat rack. But I am 5'7', not Cathe size;-)

It depends on the workout.

On endurance workouts, I generally match her weight, usually going heavier on back.

On strength workouts, I usually am able to go heavier, but not with biceps for some reason--my weak point.

And I find that my progress is pretty gradual now that I've been working out for some time.

I can match or come darn close on upper body, but on lower body...uhhhh... notsomuch! And just when I am about to get all proud, I remind myself that if Cathe is using 25 pounds, she can probably use 40 when the camera isn't rolling!

It totally depends.

When endurance lifting, I usually lift less on upper body because I find endurance lifting hard.

With heavier weights I may lift more, I may lift the same or less, depending upon the muscle group.

It takes several months to build up the strength and you need to include sufficient rest as essential to make this happen. Sometimes lifting less frequently but with greater intensity and greater amount of rest results in greater strength gains. At least, it does for me.

It doesn't mean you are a wimp. Remember: Cathe has been continually lifting for years. It is her job.

I generally lift less, though lately am able to match her at least part of the time, but of course some workouts are easier to match her than others. When I first started with Cathe I could barely lift a fraction of what she could, but I've built up and now come much closer, which is satisfying progress for me. I think I generally lift at least 2/3 the weight she is lifting, but when I started I couldn't even lift half of what she did. I'm about to start a 4DS rotation so maybe that will bump me up again.

It depends. Sometimes I match or go heavier than Cathe and other I am all the time much lower (biceps and shoulders, my weakest areas). I am amazed at what Cathe can lift for biceps and shoulders. I don't mind that I can't match Cathe I just do what is best for me.

RE: How much weight do you use...more or less than Cath...

When it comes to the legs can match her most of the time except sometimes for the lunges upper body is a different story. Shoulders and biceps I have a hard time with .If she is doing 15lbs for shoulders I could only do 10.

I usually go heavier than Cathe for biceps, triceps and shoulders. I can match her on chest, but can't even come close on back and legs. It's funny how different we all are.

It really depends on the workout.
I usually use more for back (and sometimes tricep), same for chest (but less for flyes sometimes), same or less for biceps, same or more for lower body.

I have been working out with weights for a long time, and it can take more than 'several months' to work up to her weights (but that really depends on the person--some people might be able to lift the same almost immediately).

Whatever works for you is the best weight to use. As long as the last couple of reps are tough, you're doing just fine.
