How much water do you drink per day??

I drink a good 2 quarts of water per day but I also eat a lot of fruits and vegetables with a high water content, and I usually have 1 diet root beer with my lunch.

I drink more than 2 gallons a day, and I also carry my water everywhere with me - I'm the chairman of my local zoning commission and the sect of my county planning commission and if I don't have my bottle of water with me at meetings the PUBLIC asks where my water is - LOL! But I have to make sure I supplement my electrolytes, potassium and sodium that I lose from sweating. I ended up in the ER last year with (of all things) DEHYDRATION!!! Actually, it was hyponatremia - where you can drink so much water as to dilute the items listed and it looks like you're dehydrated. (Few ER folks could imagine that I really drank that much water.) I just really like it.

HA! Someone like me!!! :) Ok, well, again, I will NEVER get hyponatremia. I eat way too much salt for that. Maybe my high water intake is WHY I like salt so much and am heavy with the shaker.?? Hmmm.. I don't supplement, not even with a multi, so that is food for thought.
So you relate to my other thread Lorrie?? Do you get dry and very uncomfortable when you get in a situation where you can't drink your normal amount??

Lorrie, how many times a day do you go to the bathroom???LOL!
I wish I could drink that much. You are my water drinking idol!

I know I don't drink enough. I try. I usually add those crystal light packets and then I can pound it like a beer! Just kidding, but I can drink it alot better, and more of it. I only drink plain water when I am WO, or if I feel dehydrated. That is one of my goals, get better at drinking water.

Yes Janice - I am totally like that. I get a little nuts if I don't have my water handy. Even just driving up to the grocery store I grab a bottle of water for in the car. When my friend and I drove to NJ for Cathe's road trip (we drove about 7 hours) I packed a cooler full of water (what a party animal I am! LOL) I do think that once you start drinking that much and your body gets well hydrated it detects any decrease - of course there is a psychological component as well.

Maeghan - I pee about 8-10 times a day - which I don't find problematic at all. I think most people are way under hydrated. I get a lot of grief from my family for the amount of water I drink, but then I also get grief from them for the way I eat and how much I workout - but we all have to find our own path. I've simply chosen one of health and clean living and it's a choice I like. (And when I go to a family reunion and my 300-pound aunts and cousins tell me I'm too thin I just chuckle.)

Just curious: Wouldn't you take this as an indication that you are drinking too much water? I think it would make me reconsider my water intake.

Water intake should also depend on your diet. If one eats a lot of processed, dry foods, then one needs more water. But if one eats a lot of raw fruits and veggies and other high-water-content whole foods, then one would need to add quite a bit less water. In fact, some raw fooders drink very little water, because they satisfy their body's hydration needs through food (though they drink coconut water, which is chock-full of electrolytes).

When I was doing a fitness challenge last year with some colleagues from work, we were to keep track of fruit and veggie intake (servings) and water intake as well as activity level. On days when I ate the most fruits and veggies, I couldn't drink as much water as on days when I ate fewer.

I don't get it... isn't the goal about being as healthy as possible?

Agree with Kathryn and the ER - this goal doesn't seem to be working in that direction.

i do my best to drink when i am thristy and drink plenty when doing harder workouts. sometimes its hard, especailly with the weather getting colder, i am drinking more tea at least. i don't get the full 8 glass recommendation though but sometimes i get that and then some.

I only drink water durng workouts. Hate water.

Never at any other time do I drink it, unless hiking in the mountains which is the only time water ever tastes good.

In Summer, I buy carbonated Perrier for the clean taste.

Rest of the year, I'm a tea drinker and take small sips of juice or milk to get my vits and medications down with.

I drink 2-3 liters of water a day (4-6 16 oz water bottles). If I don't drink that much, I get a headache and feel lousy overall. I tend to drink more on days when I had an intense cardio workout, less on days when I just do weights. I prefer the taste of water over anything else except when I'm sick. Then I can't stand water and only crave juice. I can't understand that one.

I drink about 2+ liters a day. Usually I drink about 1 liter during my workout and another liter during the day, that I carry around with me and then I have iced tea with my meals. I find my body will let me know when I've had enough- sometimes I don't finish my second liter and I'm okay with that. I also find I have less DOM's if I drink more water and I also drink more with cardio and little less with weights.
