how much space

I know this question has been asked and answered before but I haven't been able to find the thread.

I am in the process of buying a new home and will be setting up a workout room. What is the minimum amount of space I need to comfortably do a cathe aerobic step workout?

How big is your workout space.

I have a few options as to where I put my workout room and just wanted some input.

I can't say how much room you actually need but I work out in a spare bedroom which is about 10' x 12' and I can comfortably do all Cathe's workouts. I know people say Cardio Kicks is a real space hog and I do this one without a problem. As Cathe says, you can always jump higher if you don't have the space to go wider.

I would say you need an absolute minimum of 3-4 feet on all sides of the step. At least. It depends on the workout, but a spare room is a good idea if you have it. It's one of a few reasons I don't do Cathe's step workouts - my room is long and narrow and because of furniture, I have no front-to-back room to accomodate her step workouts. I stick to the Drill type workouts, because those you can modify a little easier than the step stuff, especially with all the turns and stuff she adds in. I would say a solid 10 - 12 feet square is required. Good luck with the new workout room - sounds fun!

I also think 10 x 12 would be ideal (this is assuming you don't have much equipment in the room which would take up space). The workouts can be done with less (7 feet front-to-back and 9 feet side-to-side works for many of them), but you can make your moves bigger with more space, and feel less cramped.

My room is about 10 x 12 as well. I have a treadmill and a weight bench in there. The treadmill folds up and the weight bench can be moved (to the hall) so I still have space to do step or kickboxing in there. Ideally I would have a bigger room though or space in a basement.

My basement is 12 X 17. But it has a stupid covered steam pipe running through the center, so I have to be careful when I do things like the agility drills in Drill Max. And the ceiling is only about 6'3". Good thing I'm short. :)
