how much is too much?(weights)

i love her PUB and all her other tapes but i do not want to over do it-having too much definition. i start with ctx every day, cardio kicks, circuit max(only for legs),s&h 4 days + cardio, etc. How do i avoid going over board? i love here workouts alot.
 
Ok, since I TOTALLY didn't get what your routine is, can you be more specific as to what you do everyday and the duration??

Okay, I should probably stay out of this one, BUT I'm confused too as to exactly what your doing every day. Are you doing CTX everyday and adding to this cardio kicks one day, circuit max legs another day, and S&H for 4 more days and THEN doing cardio. And if you are, I want to know if you just started doing Cathe. This makes sense if you are in the honeymoon stage and you just can't get enough of working out and if so, knock yourself out. One of three things may happen...it may start catching up to you and you may possibly burn out (don't want you to get frustrated early on), you will start to settle into a rotation that you enjoy and begin to choose your workouts to suit your needs probably not as many on one day, or you may just be an energizer bunny (and hopefully will not injure a muscle by doing too much). I know I go through periods where I do an intense blast and generally it last a few weeks and then I settle back into a more normal routine. I usually have some reason behind this. When I first got my Cathe tapes I wanted to do them all in a day and sometimes I'd try, but I couldn't keep this up for too long and I still don't yet see the definition that I want.

Lastly....If you DO get too much muscle definition....let me know exactly what you did. I've done weeks of what I consider pretty intense lifting, 2-3 hours per day, 6 days a week and I still don't have the definition that I would consider too much. Like, my arms doing look like Cathe's yet (sob, sob x( x( x( ), and no bicep vein (bigger sob) but I'm hoping it will come. What I'm trying to say is...I wouldn't worry about getting TOO much definition just yet...it will take some time, I've been working at it for what seems like an eternity to me and it's really only been 2 years or so (I realize were all different). It won't just jump out at you overnight so this wouldn't be my first concern. I'd be more concerned about possible burn out or injury from doing too much without any rest days. Just a few thoughts.

WOW! 2-3 hours per day is a little bit too much for me. my regular routine(though i wimp out some days) is:

i have over 20 tapes and have been doing them for years.
i alternate doing workouts that including legs or upper body
i prefer not to have veins sticking out like cathe

i haven't done cathe's weightlifting videos yet but she's really into barbells. i don't think i want veins sticking out also. what weightlifting video of cathe will you recommend to someone who just wants a toned, lean look with smaller muscles. i don't want to be too cut. she has plenty of strength training videos, i am now confused.

Your veins will not start sticking out unless you have extremely low body fat and a lot of muscular definition. I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless that is your situation.

First off,you do not need a barbell to do Cathe's strength tapes. I have all of them except for the Slow and Heavy series and do NOT own a barbell yet! I like using dumb bells best.
You can try any of her weight tapes and not worry about veins sticking out or getting too muscular. Maybe for starters try either her Max.Intens.Strength or Power Hour. You decide what weight you use so go lighter at first then slowly increase. If you see yourself getting "too big" back down the poundage!

I love how all of us that have been with Cathe for a while always seem to jump in when someone thinks they will get too "veiny" or "bulky" or "muscley". I just think it is funny how it seems there are two totally different kinds of poeple on this forum.

I always read these posts and think, "Man, it is the veins that I WANT. The huge gain in muscle that I WANT. The "muscley" body that I WOULD DIE FOR!!

However, to answer your question Aseay, you do seem to be doing quite a bit of lifting and if you are mesomorphic, you may find that your current routine will be "too much" and put you into the field of too much definition. But, if you tend to be more endomorphic or especially if you are ecto, I don't think you have much to worry about. I would not do Circuit Max after weights, but if it is less definition you are looking for, well, I guess that would hinder muscle growth which seems to be right up your alley...??

I would die on that rotation though, so you must be pretty buff!!

i would reccomend powerhour if u also want lean legs. its only an hour long. 2 days later try ctx which only works one body part each excersise and cardio and also have core traing and abs. plus, alot of her videos have cardio and strengh training-doing that every other day. 2 days later cardio kicks which is total body. i have been doing this for months and am lean in upper and lower body but not too much. of course, i wimp out on some days.

Thank you Janice for pointing that out. I am coming from a completely ectomorphic point of view (although I'm feelin pretty endomorphic in the last few weeks, pregnancy seems to cover me with a layer of repulsive fat - yechhhh). A mesomorph may certainly develop in a more defined way from that routine. Boy would I love to take a few mesomorph pills!!!! x( x( x(

You have a very different rotation going there aseay. A little unique....but that's okay, I can appreciate that. Let us know what kind of results you get!!

thank you guys for all your suggestions! i think lighter weights/many reps is the way to go for me. i'll just alternate between some of cathe's strength tapes and the new Slim Series(a lot of people are getting excellent results in videofitness.com). i think i will totally enjoy The Body Blast seies as well! too many videos, too little time!

Ok - maybe this is a stupid question -but what does it mean to be an "endomorph," "ectomorph" or "mesomorph?"
It all sounds so very ... X-File-ish!!!!!

Briefly, endomorphs tend to be bigger-boned and gain unwanted weight easily. Ectos tend to be small-boned and have a hard time gaining either fat or muscle. Mesos are those lucky folks that are naturally muscular and athletic. Some folks are a mixture of two of types.

Women don't gain muscle as easily as men. I think most folks agree that if you're a female and *not* a meso, you probably don't need to worry about gaining too much muscle.

hiiii!
i have gotten great results from my routine. i simply do weights every other day and legs every other day and if i miss a day i do total body like power circuit, which is my favorite because it works the legs and then do pub.
