How many toys does your dog have?

And where do you store them?

In the process of packing I decided to empty out the basket of dog toys & let Max pick through them since, much like my dresser drawers, the bottom layer of stuff has barely been touched for years.

Well, there must've been at least 50 toys in there! Some of them I haven't even seen since before I got Maximus 6 years ago! And of course out of all those toys, Max only plays w/2 of them.

The basket itself has it's own story--I got it when I got Cosmo in my first year of college. It's this piece of crap blue plastic shopping basket from some place called "Drug Palace"--I went there w/my mom when they went out of business & bought a bunch of stuff, they let me take it all home in the basket. :) Real dorm room decor, if you know what I mean.

So the basket is a POS & looks awful, yet I hesitate to get rid of it b/c it has real sentimental value (I was gonna replace it w/a nice wicker basket but now I'm having second thoughts).

And Max hasn't touched a single old toy. I think I'm gonna keep some of Cosmo's favorites & give the rest to the local animal shelter. Still not sure what to do w/that crappy looking old basket though......x(

I actually store my dog's toys in a nice wicker basket (LOL, but seriously, I do). My dogs, Pink and Kisses, actually have too many toys- and I know this becauase I have to pick them up after nearly tripping on them throughout the day. I am not sure if the animal shelter will take dog toys, but if they do that is a fantastic idea. Good luck with your decision:)

The new puppy has been spoiled ROTTEN. She has about a gazillion toys. She is our first dog to actually like toys AND bones.

It is funny that you wrote a thread about this because just this morning I told DH we needed a toy chest for Athena's stuff!

OMG .. my babies have sooooooo many toys .. not telling how many. I have two wicker baskets I keep them in ...one big one in one bedroom (umuh .. THIER bedroom) .. then another smaller one in my bedroom .. but just like kids they don't stay in the baskets .. LOL!

I try to weed out the torn up ones .. or the nasty ones every month .. they tend to fight over the bigger ones and sometimes end up destroying it .. so I am constantly sneaking to the trashcan to trash them!! :)

My dog doesn't like to play with toys. All she wants is for me to pet her. :7 The poor thing must be bored silly while I'm at work all day, though.

My dogs aren't so much with the toys either. They each have a Kong, but they only like 'em when there's peanut butter in 'em. And they have a couple of tuggy things that they occasionally play with. And a chewy Nylabone each. That's about it.

Hi LauraMax,
I've actually been meaning to post to you about your pug. Besides having the same name as me, we both have the same taste in dogs:) . I got my pug Lilly last August and she is the love of my life. I absolutely adore everything about her. My family says she is spoiled rotten and I have to agree!

She has so many toys and is so excited when I bring something home for her, kind of like a kid at Christmas. She loves her squeakers and works so hard to get the squeaker out and I often find the little plastic noisemaker in her mouth and stuffing all over the living room. She has around 25 toys and nylabones. She gets stuff almost everytime I go to the store. :D

I just store her stuff in a big dog bed for easy access. Besides the bed was for her but she has been in mine since the first night I got her!

Well we have 2 dogs so we have 2 of everything or else they fight over stuff.. they still fight over the exact same toy! anyway, I have a bone shaped dog toy box in the kitchen that is over-flowing and I bought those mesh hampers with handles that are meant to store toys in kid's rooms and they are full. Then I have 2 full size garbage bags in the spare room with older ones that have been washed, which I rotate so they think they are getting new toys all the time.. then there is the bag of ripped ones that I am going to repair one of these day.. Right!

x( I think they are a little spoiled

OMG Laura she is SOOOOO adorable! She looks a lot like Maximus except not as fat (yet LOL--he didn't start getting that bowling ball look until the last year or so :+ ). She's a "large" pug, huh? About 25 lbs or so?

Well obviously I'm not the only one spoiling her dog. :p Since I'm considering a second maybe I'll just bag them up & store them until I've made up my mind. ;)

Actually she is only 16 pounds so far. She hasn't got too big yet. I try to walk her at least two times a day but she does eat a lot of treats! I am trying not to be as generous with them but looking at that face it is pretty hard not to resist.
Laura

I know just the face you mean. It's the same face for everything: "I will worry, weep & fret for the rest of my life if you don't give me a treat/walk/pet on the head/cuddle right this very minute!" :p

Hello.

My dog LOVES her toys, but she is limited in the number of toys she has because she can only have Kong toys. She has torn up every other toy we have ever bought her. I think there was one durable rope she had for awhile. Sophie has every version of the kong (I think). She has a cabinet section in the kitchen for all of her toys, treats, grooming supplies, collars, etc. We HAVE to keep her toys in there until playtime, b/c otherwise, she will bounce her kong ball throughout the house and chase it nonstop until you go crazy.
LauraMax, are you considering another pug? I have a GS dog and I really want another one!!

They have way too many toys. Although I could have saved my money on most of them. They have one little stuffed ducky they keep carrying around, a frisbee that I have to throw every day and the favorite of all is one of those Chuck It Ball Launchers and the red plastic ball, they'll do anything to get me to throw it :)

Not too many....probably 5 or so. They tend to rip them up pretty fast and don't really like the rubber ones. There's always "fluff" hanging around from the latest one that's been mutilated.

I have a wicker basket to store them in. Of course, Cricket is as bad as Teri. As soon as the toys are in their proper place, she pulls them right back out onto the floor

First off. What the heck is a Kong? My dog has lots of tennis balls and he loves the plush types toys. He rips them to shreds. He used to have this duck that he played with and everytime he'd bite it, it would say Aflak. He really like that it talked. But he ripped it apart. He likes noisy toys and he trys to get to the squeeky parts. That is why the are always torn up.

Kongs are super heavy duty rubber chew toys that are pretty much indestructable. The ones I've bought are shaped like a round cone and they're heavy, dense rubber.

My dog has a ball or two that stay outside...other then that he only has one toy in the house but it's a BIG one! It's almost 3 foot tall and weighs 36 pounds!!! MY SON!!!!!:+ :+ :+

What more could a dog ask for?? :p

My pug Leo keeps stealing my son's toys. He prefers beanie babies and those webkins things that cost a fortune. Also, legos. He does have a few squeakers which he loves for a few days and then pulls the stuffing out of - how do you get them to stop doing that?? I swear he is constantly pooping out either really odd-shaped legos (that's got to hurt) or long stringy things that come out of toys. LOL

Anyway, he now throws EVERYTHING into the pool and barks at it until you fish it out and throw it back to him. He has also taken to swimming, and I have to buy him a life jacket so he won't drown. Has anyone used one of those? I'm thinking about the kind that has a handle on the back so you can pull them out easily.

My dogs have those life jackets with the handle on the back. I only put them on when we take the dogs boating, so they are wearing life vests like everyone else on the boat :)

Other than that I don't put it on. On weekends we frequent a dog park with a lake where they can swim. They enjoy it and have become pretty good swimmers, although they rather splash in the water, chasing each other around, instead of swimming. The first time Scooter went swimming in a pool he sank to the bottom like a rock, however, now he has figured out what to do and keeps paddling away :)

I have to say though, neither of my dogs like the life jacket, it is a major ordeal to put it on all three dogs.
