How many of you..

have thrown out your scales? I gave in and donated mine to the gym here on base a few weeks ago and have never felt better. I figure..if I can get through MIC from start to finish..I have got to be doing something right. I didn't want a few numbers to make or break my day anymore :)

Good for you! You are absolutely right. Plus the only numbers that matter are: your blood pressure, your cholesterol and your resting heart rate!

I haven't used mine in over a year. The scales cannot tell me what my body compostion is. As long as I like what I see in the mirror, I don't care how much I weigh anymore. :)

I feel bad actually throwing mine away. I've had it for so long! But I almost never use it. Maybe 4 times a year. I agree that the number is pretty useless, and I would never buy one if I didn't already own one. I've used it for "important" things, like weighing my barbell bar with no weights on it, or weighing my luggage for an international flight. :)

I haven't thrown it away but I also haven't stepped on it in months. It's collecting dust - LOL!!

I hadn't used my scale for a long time, then I joined Ediets to get rid of those stubborn 10 poundes I'd gained and couldn't get rid of. I got in the habit of weighing in once a week, and it keeps me "in line." I use the weight as just one more statistic, not as the only measure of fitness or health or being in great shape. If the weight goes up without my doing heavy lifting AND I notice things like my size 8 pants are tight, then I might add some more cardio into my routine or look at what I've been eating and see what extras I can cut back on.

I did donate my dial display scale to the Salvation Army after getting a more accurate digital scale that weighs in half-pound increments (even though the new one "says" I'm 3# heavier than the old one!).

I haven't thrown mine out, because I do weigh my kids once in awhile. They like to see how the are growing. But I do weigh myself about 3 times per year. The funny thing is, my weight is always the same, so I don't know why I bother. I agree, the obsession with the scale is a waste of time.

Nope, haven't thrown out mine. I seldom use it to weigh myself, but I use it a lot to weigh packages I have to mail so I can figure out mailing costs. And when I travel abroad, it's a handy gadget to make sure each piece of baggage doesn't go over 70 lbs.:)

I think the scale is a great tool to help keep tabs. I threw mine away for a year or more and when I got one again found I had gained 20 pounds. I realize that I am not the norm, but I am 6 feet tall and can easily hide 20 pounds. It really does take that much for me to go up a size. So - yes the waistbands on my shorts were a bit tighter, but I could rationalize that away. So - now have 20 pounds to lose. 20 pounds that I could have prevented if I had only been wieghing myself regularly. I'll never ditch it again....

I've kept mine and weigh myself once a week to keep myself in check. Otherwise, my weight goes up every time. Through experience I noticed that when I don't weigh myself I end up gaining weight even when I work out.

I haven't had a scale at my disposal for over 12 years, and these have been the sanest 12 years of my life. Used to weigh myself at the club on Saturdays after my aqua class, but even that's gone by the by.
