How Low is "low" carb??

For those of you following a low carb diet.....how many grams of carbs do you eat each day?

Thanks!

RE: How Low is

On Atkin's during induction you are allowed 20 grams of carbs a day. After induction you can begin to add back in carbs as long as you are still losing, most people start with 5 gram increments.

I usually get between 30 and 50 grams of carbs a day! I eat no sugar or pasta or rice, I do eat whole wheat crackers, a banana a day and some red raspberries and blueberries all in my low carb vanilla fruit smoothie in the morning for breakfast.

I am doing low carb my own way.

Hope that helps you some!

RE: How Low is

Hello there. I guess I'm like Annette. I am kind of doing my own thing, but with the Atkin's twist. In the two weeks I was on "induction" I was definitely in the 25-40 carbs per day range. There were hardly any days that I stayed under or at 20 grams. I still lost...........eight pounds in two weeks. I looked at it this way: I ate what satisfied me and I still lost.

Good luck!!

RE: How Low is

I also eat my own low carb diet. I don't count carbs each day but I did track myself once on fitday and found I'm eating around 60-80 carbs per day.

I avoid processed food, white flour, sugar, potatoes, and all other high glycemic foods. I eat 1/2 fruit each day plus unlimited veggies. And MY diet requires a small piece of decadent Swiss chocolate every day. :9

Learing about the glycemic index of food really helped guide me in the right direction. I have been able to maintain my weight, and without needing to lose I still lost 5#.

RE: How Low is

I'm in the 30 to 80 gram a day crowd. I am following Atkins, but am considering myself to be semi-maintenance. At this level I still lose VERY slowly, but it's really almost maintenance for me. I generally eat my carbs in veggies, with a few low carb treats here and there and a little fruit as well. By this time I would have added back more fruit, but I'm still keeping my sugar levels low because of a side issue I have with candida albicans.

RE: How Low is

I haven't even read Atkins. I just know that I loose weight and when I stick to salads & veggies, lean proteins, avoid sugar, white flour, all grains if possible. I get bloated and also have candida issues if I consume breads, crackers, pastas, sugars, etc. My carbs are probaby in the 20-40 range sometime lower and sometimes higher. I try to keep them low, but I generally have a "donut heaven day" about every 8 days and then I get back on the boat and go for another 2 weeks or so of low carbing again. It works for me!!! Just get rid of the processed foods and you will go a long way towards your weight goals!!
