How long did it take you to get the step routines down?

So, as I'm sitting her watching the Step Blast video, I'm wondering how I'll ever be able to keep up with all of the moves. I fear I'll be hopping around like an idiot, trip, and fall on the step. ;(
How long did it take you to get it down?

I usually have to do her tapes 2-3 times before I stop tripping over my own feet. I still haven't gotten the 3rd section of Rhythmic Step yet. A good goal for 2005 I guess.

RE: How long did it take you to get the step routines d...

Hi.

I'm a newbie to Cathe and to step...I am also choreographically challenged when it comes to step aerobics! x(

I got basic step down in 2 or 3 tries...I am now doing body fusion. I have done it 2x and it is confusing for me during certain parts so I will need to do it a few more times before I feel comfy....so I'm sure step blast is WELL beyond my capability at this point so I probably shouldn't even be posting on this one at all! lol

When I do get to trying that one...oh 5 years from now!!!! LMAO :p I will certainly let everyone know how it went!:)

Good Luck! I'm sure you will do well!

RE: How long did it take you to get the step routines d...

I started off big and Step Blast was my first-ever Cathe workout to do.

Let me first say that I have asthma, so it took me longer to learn Step Blast simply because I hadn't worked out in a while and my lungs wouldn't let me get all the way through the workout (let me add that I can now make it all the way through with little problem).

With that said, it took me a couple of months to get Step Blast down...not because I couldn't catch on to the complicated footwork, but because for the first 3-4 weeks, my lungs only allowed me to get through the warmup and routine #1...and on a good day, part of routine #2. Routine #1 was the most challenging on my lungs, but I later found that Routine #3 had the most challenging footwork. I think I got routine #3's footwork down on about the 4th or 5th try.

The good news is, once you get one of Cathe's cardio workouts down, it becomes easier to learn the others because she seems to build off of many of the same types of moves -- they're different enough to be challenging and fun, but similar enough to be able to quickly learn. In other words, your learning curve will dramatically shorten once you've mastered Step Blast.

Good luck and have a good time with it! Step Blast is a fun workout - one of my favorites!

Wow Catwoman...that's inspiring!

I am going to be tackling Cardio Hits in a few short days and I will think of you what you had to battle when I want run away from the television screaming and give up!

I believe I will have the endurance, etc. to keep up with the intensity in Cardio Hits...it's just the choreography that will slow me down.

Step Blast only took me a couple of tries, but I'm still working on Rhythmic Step. I've only tried it about four times because I get frustrated with it. I think I'll have to pull this one out again and give it another chance. I do agree with everyone else that once you get one of the step workouts down, most of the others should follow a bit easier.

I just love Rhythmic Step! I did Step Blast constantly for the first few months, but finally gave Rhythmic Step a shot. It's funny - when I do Rhythmic Step, it's my favorite cardio workout, but when I go back to Step Blast, it becomes my favorite workout. They are both so good!

I've been doing Rhythmic Step for about 3-4 months now, and I will tell you that the 3rd combo still gets me. I can't get that knee, kick, and heel sequence coordinated with the arms that go along with it, and I get all turned around, so I just don't do the arms. Plus, my copy is taped off of FitTV and they cut out a bunch of that last combo so they could fit the workout into the hour timeslot...so I'm sure that's part of my problem...because it's a little chopped up. I MUST get the DVD so I can have the full, complete workout, complete with the challenge at the end!

At any rate, I wanted to add that people should do the routines without a step the first couple of times they do a workout like Step Blast or Rhythmic Step. It's so much easier to learn the footwork when you don't have to worry about falling over a step. Once you get the footwork down, add the step back in and you'll find it's a lot easier.

Oh, and "rewind" is your friend. It sure was mine in the beginning when I was learned Step Blast.

RE: How long did it take you to get the step routines d...

LOL I can't do ANY of the step tapes w/o a step. I'm just about the most uncoordinated person I know, & if I don't have the exact setup Cathe's using I get all kinds of confused. I've tried doing more intense videos w/o the step before & I get completely lost.

Yeah "rewind" is a good thing. Also I do watch the tapes all the way through first before trying them. So the first time through when she does a new move, I will rewind it & watch it a couple of times, sometimes even in slow motion.

I did basic step with out a step the first 2 times and it worked very well for me. I may have to do that again when I attempt one of the Cardio Hits work outs!

It seemed to take me forever to get Rythmic Step down - I think the best way to learn a new tape (or DVD) is to practice the new moves before you try the whole workout. Cathe suggests viewing a new tape one before you do it, and that IS a very good idea. Saves frustration.

I preview and then expect to take 5 workouts to get it pretty good.
