How long after I eat...

can I do a weights workout? I usually work out in the early morning, and wanted to do GS Legs tonight. How long after eating is safe?

I don't know that there is any set rule for when it's "safe" I just go with how I feel. If I feel like lifting is going to make me sick, I quit.

For me personally, lifting soon after eating doesn't bother me unless it's a super heavy meal. Sometimes I only wait about 15 minutes and I'm perfectly fine! It's really trial and error on your part! If you are nervous, wait a couple of hours the first few times and if you are okay then you can cut the time down to 1 hr 45 mins, etc. until you are at a time you are happy with!

ETA: I ALWAYS eat before I work out.

HTH!:)

its all in how you feel. i could lift after say a half an hour to 45 mins. after a big breakfast for cardio i have to wait a bit longer and i usually don't eat a big breakfast before cardio just enough for energy. i notice to that i have to eat something before i lift for the energy to lift.

Just listen to your body and do what you feel is best for you. I always workout with a belly full of food, but that is just me. Nothing like doing crunches with a belly full of spaghetti! LOL!

I always eat first then work out. I don't do squat (no pun intended)in the morning unless I've eaten... I've never had any problems and the belly is happy:)

As others have said, it depends on what you eat. A light snack 20 minutes before working out is fine, IMO. A banana 10 minutes before is fine. A heavier meal maybe 1 hour previously.

It also depends somewhat on the exercises. A while ago, I did some stability ball work a bit too soon after eating, and had to watch how I placed myself during the "lying prone over the ball" moves, or it seemed like I was causing my gastric juice to go the wrong way!
