I am thinking seriously about buying the Slow and Heavy series and was wondering just how heavy the weights are that are used. I know you can modify to use what weights you already have, but I am curious to know how heavy people go.
I am able to match or pass Cathe on S&H. That means for S&H Chest and Back, I am using 30, 25, 20 and 15 lbs dumbells. You can go lower if you need to. Use the weights that are heavy for YOU.
It all depends on you. When I tried it the first two rotations, I couldn't lift as much as I was during Pure Strength or MIS because the speed of the lift is very taxing on the muscle. I ALSO made the mistake during my first two rounds of S&H of trying to do S&H on Mon/Tue/Wed and then Power Hour or MIS on Friday. No way. This time I finished up 4 weeks of S&H and lifted more poundage each week and worked out one workout only (Mon - Wed - Fri) and didn't try to workout the muscles a second time in the same week. I had fantastic results and did Pure Strength last week and broke all my previous poundages by more than 20% on all my weights. Plus I dropped in size to a 6/8 from an 8/10. Talk about pleasing results!
Lifting HEAVY is all relative - and it depends on your body and, as Cathe says, how much is going on in your life, the amount of rest you get, the food you eat, etc. etc. etc. You should do what's best for you and not worry about matching Cathe's weight. By the end of my August S&H rotation I was matching or exceeding most of Cathe's poundages - of course Cathe is filming and probably lifts less than she really could but she has to concentrate on form and presentation for the cameras. Even so - she is QUITE impressive! You will love this series! I am sure you'll have spectacular results if you listen to your body and lift what is heavy for you! Good luck!
