How do you pick a goal weight?

I'm also 5'7" tall, but weigh less than a lot of people my height. I'm between 110-112 lbs. I have a very small bone structure and low body fat. I am not skinny, but would classify myself as slender.

Reading all the above posts just goes to show that there are so many different body types and frame sizes. Both of these things figure into what weight looks good on an individual. I wouldn't look good at anything much heavier than 115 lbs or so. In fact, even at 9 months pregnant, my highest weight ever, I was only 126 lbs -- and my baby weighed 9 lbs!

Don't pick a goal weight. Aim for a reasonable percentage of body fat. That is far more important than a number on the scale. You might want to consult a trainer to assist you in aiming for a reasonable bodyfat percentage for your body.

I agree taht 125 seems low for a person who is 5'7". Isn't it interesting how Jennifer Aniston weighed 130# (she is 5'5") and Hollywood told her she was fat. She now weighs (according to an interview I read) 112# and is 'super healthy.' My brothers think she looked better when the show started. I read an interesting interview with a girl from the tv show "Angel." I can't remember her name. She said that the producers wanted her to lose weight and she was a size 3/4. And the cute red head who plays Amber in the movie "Clueless" (can't remember her name either) said that when she was anorexic and her family was worried sick, she got more offers for movies than ever before. Okay, I totally got off the subject there. I am sorry. Had to vent.

I would say don't be too obsessed with the number on the scale. Trying to maintain fitting into a reasonabe size clothing might be an alternative as mentioned in an earlier post.

I am 5'2" and at age 38 (4 years ago) decided that 131 was too heavy. I joined WW, dropped down to 120 and did mostly cardio and a small amout of weight workouts. Then I really became interested in Cathe's workouts, and became less obsessed with the number on the scale. Now I rarely weigh myself, but I usually weigh 133. I checked my body fat: in summer 2001 it was 22%, and now in summer 2002 it is 18%. I eat mainly clean but am not obsessed. And I still wear a size 6 except in Victoria Secret pants- my legs are too muscular for a 6 now. (happy, happy!)

I give thanks to Cathe's workouts and this forum for being realistic and not too rigid.

I decided long ago that I don't want to be remembered as the woman-mother-wife who was obsessed about her body so much that she was a bore to be around. Life is too short! (Not to mention that my teenagers and "tween" daughter take their cues from me. Therefore living a realisitc healthy life is a lesson they can learn from.

Sorry this is so long. I don't post often, but read the forum regularly! Thanks to every one for their great input!!!

Take time to enjoy those who matter most to you & do all things in moderation :)

I am the opposite of JeanneMarie I'm 5'8 and weigh more then someone 5'8 should weigh. I'm what you call a Athena and weigh over 150 - I am overweight by BMI standards but my bodyfat tells a different story - It is well within the average range.
In all seriousness I could never weigh 150 or below (At my thinnest in collage when I looked very thin - I weighed 155). That is a weight I cannot maintain.
However I am strong and healthy - I have completed many long bike rides, half - marathons, 5K's/10K's and just this summer turned into a triathelete.

So I don't know what I'm trying to say - But sometimes the number on the scale doesn't tell you everything.
