How cold is it?

It's so cold in my basement that I had to put more air in my stability ball. :p
It was -6.25 degrees at 3:00 this morning.
The garage door was frozen shut. My DH borrowed my blow dryer to try to get it open. I was secretly hoping he'd ruin it so I could get one of those ion ones that were talked about on the forums recently. ;) No such luck.
 
That's a creative use for a blow dryer! Just tell your DH that the fancy schmancy ion dryer would have worked twice as fast. That definitely justifies the purchase. :)

Here, the low today was 2 degrees and the high is 17 degrees. Snow has frozen into ice, and it's everywhere! My one consolation is that the daytime light is getting longer and longer (on those rare days when the sun does decide to come out).
 
We've been in extremely low single digits for what seems like forever!! With windchills hitting -15.

Keep working on the hair-dryer! ;)

We've actually had a relatively warm winter here, outside of Chicago. Yesterday morning it was cold, into the single digits. Now it's 12, heading out for a run shortly. Then we are supposed to warm up a bit, but they are saying we are supposed to get a cold snap, and the high on Monday is going to be 9. I just want some snow!! We haven't had any snow, which is really odd. A couple less than 1 inch dustings, and that's it. No ShovelMax here :(:(:(

I'm in Pennsylvania and it's been nice in the 40-50's, although it is supposed to snow lightly tonight! Our area has flu outbreaks like crazy the hospitals are putting up tents for the overflow of people, it looks like a scary movie.
 
I use a space heater to preheat my basement for about a half hour before exercising at this time of year. I can turn the heater off or down once I work up a sweat but it helps to get started exercising if the space isn't cold.
 
Nope, not the North Pole--just a record-breaking cold snap in northern Utah.;) The schools were actually closed on Friday because of the last storm (a pretty rare event). At least it's not humid cold, and there isn't a wind chill like some of you guys have. But now we're set up for another inversion--yuck.:mad:

What a scary situation in Pennsylvania. Wow!

And as cold as it is in my basement, I still have to turn the fan on after the warmup because I sweat so much. But I didn't need a fan for burn sets. :D
 
Wow Utah??? That's far! I'm in New York. Same like Pennsylvania. Very mild winter almost 60 yesterday. I wish it would get cold. Then maybe the flu outbreak will go away!
 
I'm in Northern Utah also, it's just miserable!
I wouldn't consider myself a fair weather runner, On my running days I usually go no matter what. Between the negative temps, bad air quality, and iced over roads (snow plows dont come out where I'm at) I haven't been out for 2 weeks!
Xtrain came right in time!:)
I have a marathon in the spring I should be training for! I hope this doesn't last much longer!
Cold is manageable but bad air and ice/snowy roads just suck!

I'm with Pam....it's been absolutely freezing here in Colorado!

One of my Facebook friends put this picture up and it made me laugh. Hopefully you enjoy it too!

dont hate me!

In AL - and it has been 75 - 80 degrees now for over a week ..:rolleyes:.. we have broken records for the warmest days in JAN .. SAT... @80 degrees.. broke an 1898 record of warmest day for JAN recorded for my area {{{ sorry }}} it is very STRANGE weather indeed!! We are to get back cold FRI .. well cold for us 40's during the day and around 30 at night!!

I feel for you guys - I dont think I would survive those negative temps!! Stay warm!!

Does this mean you're doing the Ogden again, Christie? It's got to be awful trying to get ready with conditions the way they are. Personally, I haven't been out running since December. :eek: I'm thinking that XTrain will be spectacular conditioning for running, however. Good Luck!

Yes, I got in. Are you? I'm doing Striders winter training circuit again too which starts feb 3rd! It's going to be ugly!
I think after this I'm gonna do more biking maybe LOTOJA next year

I'm in Idaho, so not far from Elsie3 and Chris801 in Utah. It's been so cold I've been staying indoors because the roads are bad. Thank heaven for home workout DVDs to keep me sane (bless you Cathe!).

I guess we are due this cold freeze. I heard on the news that last year at this time temps in my area were averaging in the 40s.

Good for you!!! I'm really impressed. The Winter Circuit will be brutal!:eek: I didn't try to get in this year--I had a few other things I needed to do with my money (like Xtrain;), and I was still getting over plantar fascitis when it was time to register, so I didn't dare try. I'm sad it's getting harder to get in to the Ogden, because I really want to do it again before I turn 50.

Let me know how your training and races go. LOTOJA would be awesome.

I'd take 20 over 80 ANY day. Yick!!!

Okay, I'm in Memphis and its currently 30*. That may not seem cold to some of you but last month {and even last week!} it was still in the 70's and we were wearing tshirts.

We get weeks of 30s then weeks of 70s on a regular basis so we don't get a chance to get used to anything before the weather changes again. At least it stopped raining/sleeting.
