How can I make these flowers stick?

I know some of you ladies have an idea for me on this. My daughter is decorating her room with flowers of all different colors. She has flower stickons for her walls and curtains. I was browsing arould wal-mart when I saw these big flower place mats. They are in shapes of a flower. I was thinking to myself that I could actually use those for wall decorations. They don't even look like place mats! Well not any that I've ever seen. Well what my question is do any of you know what I could use on the back of them to make it stick? I haven't bought them yet,but if I can find out how to put them up I will buy them.

Thanks,

kim

Hey shelley,

I forgot to mention they were vinyl, but I suppose I would want to get these off in a few years. This is the last time I will decorate until she goes to college in 3 yrs. So yes, I want to be able to take them off.

Thanks,

I think I've seen these mats. Are the flowers on a clear background?

-You could try double sided clear tape.

-You could drill a tiny hole in the mat and then hang it up on a small teeny nail. If you paint the nailhead the same color of the wall it will disappear.

-liquid starch might work. It works for fabric and it peels right off the walls when needed. You could also try wallpaper paste. You may have to secure it in place until it dries for both cases. I'm not sure how heavy the mat is.

-I know there is a product that is "gummy" that is used to tack up posters to walls in place of tape. I wonder if they sell a clear like product? Or this might work if the mats aren't on a clear background.

-I'm sure there are lots of products out there to hang these up.

These flowers are actually shaped flowers. It looks like the flower had been cut off of a background. One flower is big enough to almost cover a end table on its top. this is going to be interesting to play with. At least I have a whole other gallon of paint!

I suggest going to a hardware store and asking one of the employees. Most times, there's someone there who really knows what to do.

You could also try a craft store, where they might have a clear liquid you can use to paint on the back of the flowers that makes it sticky, but detachable. I know it works for fabric (to make removeable decals), but I'm not sure what else it would work for. And it may not stay long term.

There are also different types of white putty-like materials (like the "gummy" that Namita mentioned) that you can usually find in the school supplies sections of stores that you can use to attach things to walls. I have some glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to my ceiling with that stuff. They've been up for several years, and only one has fallen down (maybe because I didn't get it up securely in the first place).

I am a huge fan of 3M Command Adhesive products. Poster putty leaves a greasy stain on your walls that is very ugly and even bleeds through a new coat of paint (I speak from experience here!). Command adhesive doesn't stain, and is easy to remove (doesn't damage walls in any way). Sounds like for this project, the Poster Strips would be your best bet. I use them all the time to hang posters, calendars and things of that sort. For these placemats, you'd probably only need 1 or 2 strips per placemat.

I would use straight pins myself but it depends if you have a good place to tack them through the placemat. It leave such a tiny hole and you don't really see it on what you are attatching.

The other thing you could use is the adhesive velcro squares. They will actually hold light weight picture frames and do not damage the wall in any way.

Low Tack Adhesive Spray. I have used it for when I stencil...it could work if the flowers aren't too heavy.
