housewives of nyc... o m g

Has anyone seen this show? I watched it today w/my 13-yr-old DD. We both felt like we were watching bad stereotypes come to life. Please don't think all NYers are like this. They're not!!!!

I am a fan of Housewives of O.C., but this NYC version is the WORST. The cat fight by the pool in the Hampton's and that creepy couple who "style" eachother?! I thought I was going to barf watching the husband prance around the beach in St. Bart's in his "Man-kini!" Yuck. This show is junk, IMO.

Yea, the O.C. version is actually pretty good but I had a bad feeling about this show before it even aired. I only think rich spoiled people are like that. And they're from all over.

Is anyone ready to burn their tv on the steps our capital to protest the onslaught of crappy reality tv???!!!! Seriously. I am surprised that we don't a tv show chronicling celebrity toilet habits.

Oh, I know, this show is terrible! I loved OC Housewives, but the NYC ones are not interesting at at all. Bring back Cali!!!

When we moved to the mountains two and a half years ago, we decided we'd rather look at the view than be watching tv, so we didn't get any hookup. I have not missed it at all. My husband was starting to get a little weak about it a month ago. We went skiing and had tv in the condo we were using. The quality of tv was so awful, it reminded him of why we didn't want it in the first place (whew!), so we are still tv-free. My all-time favorite quote from my eight year old is when he had a sleepover at a friend's house at about 7 years old. It sounded like they had watched a movie and I asked what movie it was. He said, "I don't know.... it was the one that keeps changing until you get to something you like." He didn't even know what tv was!!

We do have netflix, so it's not like we are completely deprived, but we are beginning to get pretty pop-culture stupid, which is fine with us.

So, just disconnect!!! You'll be glad you did.

Lucky you!
Unfortunately someone in the house requires their boob tube but I don't turn mine on much any more, unless it's to watch Nigella Lawson or Law & Order. I'd rather read books but the thought of what the masses are watching these days is scary for a variety of reasons!

I guess I'm in the minority. :-( I've got so much going on in my life that watching mindless television is often welcome. I watched the O.C. County one and enjoyed that and didn't think I'd be interested in the new one but it's serving a purpose for me - entertainment. I don't analyze the show, don't try to figure it out, don't judge the people, I just watch it and enjoy it for what it is. Hmmmmm, I wonder though. Can I get a tennis pro to teach me tennis with his shirt off??? }(

I like mindless T.V. too, but I do have some standards. For me, there is no entertainment value in a show like Housewives of NYC.

Oh Lord, don't give them any ideas!

Pop on over to VH1 sometime and get a load of all that crap. Although I do like Celebrity Rehab...:)

My faves are Top Chef and Project Runway, other than that, I could care less about the TV. Oh, and the food network of course, I am another Nigella fan (whatta woman), and love me some Paula Deen and watch in horror/fascination as Sandra Lee whips up her semi-homemade fare on her color coordinated set.:7

Actually, I have to say that I did watch a bit of Celebrity Rehab and I do like that show. It's not about being mean or disrespectful but helping people. I like that the counselors ask the patients some tough questions and hold them accountable for their behavior.

Hear, hear! We don't have TV either and I don't miss it at all. We do have have Net Flix, which I really enjoy.

Maggie:)

I know, I hope they do another season. I had problems with drugs in my long ago past, so I can totally relate to some of the stuff they went through, plus I think Dr. Drew is a hot mess of a man:p

I watch the local news in the am and then at night, so I actually really enjoy TV I suppose!

I have the exact same reaction!

I found that I could actually relate to the girls from the OC; and I felt as if I could join their click and fit in. Their issues are much more relatable to me.

The women that are featured on NY just seem too snobb-ish for me and I know they would never what to know me. I have never seen anyone throw such a fit over not being inviting to a party.

Denise :)

I love the Food Network too and Project Runway! :)

I wish someone would do Housewives of Normal people....like our houses look like tornadoes have been through. Our make up is not perfect in carpool line. We workout at home, in which our gyms are located in corners. And that we spend an awful amount of time on forums!! You know normal women and women that reallly work for a living. Even though I am not discounting what those women do, but the other side of womanhood.

"Is anyone ready to burn their tv on the steps our capital to protest the onslaught of crappy reality tv???!!!!"

Nah. It's like term-limits; we already have them - it's called voting. Same with TV: If they weren't being watched, networks wouldn't keep putting more and more reality shows on TV. They're just giving the people what they want.

And, really, not all TV is bad. Last night, Turner Classic Movies showed the 1948 Orson Welles' version of "MacBeth," which is sooo worth seeing. That's my weakness: movie channels!!!!

And that exactly what I find so scary is that people are actually watching this crap and seem to be proving that the U.S. is filled with morons chiefly concerned with gas prices, racking up credit card bills on QVC, and watching women humiliate themselves for the pseudo affections of washed up celebrities. How many people out there have a sense of geography, know anything about world news, or read a book that doesn't have Fabio on the cover? And watching Orson Welles'? TeTe, you geek ;-)
Alright, off my soapbox.

Ok I know this is not going to win me any points with anyone but I sometimes watch bad reality TV. I used to watch The Hills and I sometimes tune into some of the train wreck tv on VH1. I love Project Runway and What Not to Wear. I am a student who between working and going to school does not really have a lot of time for tv. Some of the drama shows are good but I do not want to get sucked into a show and feel like I have to tune in every week. So when I do have time for TV it is usually something mindless and shallow that I can just veg out and watch and forget about in five minutes. I do not waste away hour after hour but I figure my brain can take a rest every once in a while :+
