Household Tips

Hi all!

Does anybody have house cleaning tips?

How often do you clean your entire house?

Or how do you break certain household chores (vacuuming, dusting, laundry, etc.) apart?

How often do you do what?

Also, what household cleaners do you use?

Kathryn, I saw that you use white vinegar a lot. Do you dilute it, how do you use it, and is it superior to regular disinfectants?

I hope this thread is not too boring for you!

I put some in a spray bottle and use it that way.
I also use it to remove mineral build-up from my water distiller (can also do the same for shower heads, etc.). I just put a bit in full strength (or dilute it and add more) and let it sit until the minerals are soft enough to wipe out.

White vinegar has been shown to disiinfect better than bleach.

Amy....

This will change your life :)

But, here is a caveat... do not sign up to be a member.... your poor little inbox will be jammed full in a matter of days....

But seriously, it helps you break your house chores by days of the week. When I was out on maternity leave, it was extremely helpful!!!

Enjoy!

Steph - how does it work? I see you buy the timer but I'm not sure where to find how she (it?) breaks up chores. And how does it work if you don't sign up?

ETA: never mind. I figured it out. It looks really cool. I'm already 'soaking' my sink as I type. Thanks for the link!

I use flylady.net to. I also bought her book "Sink Reflections". In addition you might want to try hisgraceworks.com. They have the most beautiful planners that include each day of the week and specific chores for each day. I actually heard about flylady from the lady that started the Grace Works planners. I got the "Beautiful Life Management System" and I love it. It came with 2 cassette tapes that walk you through using the planner and tell you how to manage your home. I've called before with questions and they are just the sweetest people. A pleasure to do business with.

One word: Windex with vinegar! I use it everywhere. I have black granite/marble floors and countertops and it seems to be the only thing that removes grease and Newfie slobber! I have also used plain old white vinegar with water...works great.

I swear everytime we move I say to myself, this time will be different, no black floors, but they seem to follow me...trust me, they are horrible to keep clean and everything shows up.x(

We have a pretty big house, so I have cleaning ladies come in during the week, but STILL clean when they are not here, I have too. Las Vegas is all dust everywhere, so it is hard to keep on top of everything!

This question is for Kathryn or anyone else who would know. Is apple cider vinegar just as effective as white vinegar or is white vinegar better?

White vinegar.
Apple cider vinegar does work well as a hair rinse, though (if you don't mind the smell!)
