I have a question for the tea drinkers here; what are your favorite flavors of tea. I am trying to cut down on the amount of coffee I drink and thought about going with tea. I have tried it before, but haven't been able to find anything that has any "bite" to it. It all tastes pretty blah. I did try the Liptons vanilla carmel truffle this morning and it wasn't to bad. Any other ideas? I lean more towards the sweet rather than the tart side.

If I could just drink coffee black, but nooooo, I have to have my FF creamer. To be honest, THAT'S what I'm addicted to. Mmmmmmmmmmm:9, tastes so good and I can't stop at just one cup x(.

TIA for any suggestions.

I order delicious loose tea from Teavana.com. They have stores all over the place -- just not where I live. I tried it first at a store in Chicago. Their website has great descriptions of the benefits of each type of tea and of the various flavors. It also tells you how much caffeine is in each type or blend.

I had a very bad coffee habit and quit drinking it about a year ago. Now I find that I don't particularly like the taste, although I will drink it occasionally. It is so nice not to need that much caffeine each day.

Um...Lipton tea???? You are an obvious coffee drinker because anyone who is a true tea drinker would not recommend that swill! x(

In fact, try to skip tea bag tea altogether as it is usually a major disappointment. I do find that Tazo teas (you can buy them at Starbucks or the organic section in your grocery store) are quite decent for teabag tea. I also recommend going to adagio.com because you can buy sample sizes to see what you like. Personally, I love Irish or English breakfast teas but you might find you prefer fruit herbal teas. Please, whatever you do, don't drink that ghastly Lipton!

I love Teavana's loose teas and have a whole collection. I'm a huge fan of oolong teas. Garden of life has a coffee flavored oolong tea that I bought but haven't tried yet. Mighty tea is another brand of teas I enjoy. So many great teas out there.

I agree about Lipton. I also like Tazo tas and found some good ones at Trader Joe's.

If you can get to a tea shop - they will let you try different teas so you can find what you like. The tea may cost more, but you save money by not buying teas you won't drink.

Also - if you are feeling up ot it, take a day trip to Chinatown in Chicago. They have GREAT tea there! Not to mention, it's just an interesting place to go to.

And check the ingredients on the teas. A lot of flavored teas have artifical flavors rather than real stuff.

I have a great sampler of Ashby's of London that I got for Christmas from Gloria Jeans. I traditionally fared towards English Breakfast and Earl Grey teas, but have found that I like quite a few of the "fruitier" teas in that pack.
They have flavors like Cinnamon Plum, Apricot (which is a favorite), Ginger Peach, Lemon, etc...

I also find that Jewel usually has a good selection, and sampler packs where you can test to see what you like.

I'm not a tea conisseur enough that I make my own bags or buy looseleaf, but I do like variety.

And I agree, Lipton is terrible!

ITA with Beavs!!! No Lipton tea. I like Tazo, mainly Sweet Orange, Passion, Earl Grey, Lemon Mate, Zen and Green Ginger. Otherwise I get loose tea from my friend, she is an herbalist. I also buy loose leaf tea from a small French bistro in my area, it's imported from France and in large green tins, but I don't remember the name. The green tea tastes a little citrusy and it is just divine!!!

I have never been much of a coffee drinker, I like the smell better than the taste. If I drink coffee every once in a while I will have a latte, in fact, it's more like I have some coffee with my milk ;-) :p

The Teavana website looks good.

Clinks tea cups with Beavs and guzzles down another cup of Japanese Green tea.

Beavs - you sound just like my husband. He is British and won't go near Lipton tea! Since I don't do the whole unbagged tea thing, he goes for the English Breakfast tea. Of course, he can not figure me out because I don't take milk in my tea:).

Ohhhh -- Tazo green ginger -- couldn't make it through the day without it! Always carry an extra bag or two w/ me since many restaurants will do that Lipton ick. It was really hard for me to go away from the coffee too, but I'm a Tazo fan forever.

WOW, thank you everyone for your input. I see I will have to forgo the "swil" x(, and get the good stuff ;-) . I drink coffee more for the creamer than actual coffee itself. I do love the smell of fresh brewed coffee though. Oh, and I use the 1/2 caff. coffee, just enough to get me going. Otherwise I would be bouncing off the walls.

I will look into the loose leaf teas and go from there. It's funny, my mom was a tea drinker and I never knew what exactly she drank. My loss I guess..........in more than one way.

Lipton's Yuck! Loose tea from any reputable tea seller. I personally like Harney and Sons. They sell a variety of blends of black, green, herbals, oolongs etc. I too was a serious coffee drinker and switched to tea. Van't stand coffee now. I buy tea online or thru catalogues.

I LOVE tea! I also enjoy sweet so I always have to add a splenda or two to my tea. Any green and white teas with the splenda is good but you might like vanilla caramel tea. I can picture the box but can't picture the maker. It would be near the vanilla truffle tea you mentioned. The box for the vanilla carmel is beige actually it might be bigelow who makes it.

Let us know which one you end up trying!

I like my tea sweet too and I can highly recommend using sucanet, raw sugar, or agave nectar :9

Oh, I love this crowd. So informative about almost anything, how great is that?!

Beavs,

I have looked into the agave nectar, but don't know where to find it. I can get raw sugar from the store and not sure about the sucanet. I live out in the boonies in Indiana, so things are not always easy to find. Well, not for me anyway, lol. Maybe I'll try a health food store in a nearby town/city.

Thanks again!

Sally

You might also try online vendors...Vitacost might have it (and they have the tazo teas for a very reasonable cost). It's pricey...I pay about $5.00 at the Hannaford grocery store. Carola and I will be waiting to clink tea cups with you!

I Loooooooovvveee drinking tea! I have really gotten into loose leaf teas and order all of mine from specialteas.com. Their tea is really good, better than I've found anywhere else. Also, you can order samples of all of their teas for only $1 each. And the best part is that you can get 5-10 cups out of each sample!

LOL Beavs!!! Can't wait to clink:D.

Ooohh Lorie, I'll have to try the samples. That sounds like the way to go.

I love tea. I drink it morning and night and sometimes green tea in the afternoon. At night I drink the decaf black (black tea is my favorite-just about any flavor). Lipton-I agree with the others-yuk! I usually buy loose tea and organic tea. I usually put a little skim milk in my tea.

Have you ever tried Peppermint tea? I love the stuff and try to drink it in the afternoon instead of sweets, and I'm like you I love the coffee and the stupid sugar free creamer I put in there, I'm trying to break free of it but HOW??? I tried half and half and it just isn't the same!
LOL

I LOVE peppermint tea. To me it tastes really refreshing but I am weird, I also like chamomille and almost any other herbal tea. To top the weirdness off, I don't like any sugar, sweetener, stevia, agave nectar, honey ..... BLECH!!! I have to have some lemon in my black tea though.

No idea how you could break free of your sugar free creamer addiction, Kelly. But if you like it why not have it moderation? Life is to short to sweat the small stuff ;)
