Hospital Bag...what did you pack, moms?

Okay...I really gotta finish this but I don't wanna ;( x( ...any volunteers to come over and help me?? I hate hate hate packing!!! lol :p

I don't know if I'll feel comfortable being in the hospital gown the whole time mostly because your butt sticks out and what a pain that will be if I want to get out of bed when I have visitors! lol So I want to bring a nightgown but don't own one! I really do hate them. I much prefer pj's. So now I have to go and BUY a (nursing) nightgown that I will probably never wear again...GREAT! lol

Ok, I'm done complaining...thanks for listening! :+

Hey, you, I don't like to pack either, so I won't come over and help you. }( J/K. I live too far away anyways.
I wanted to let you know that when you are in labor, you will not care who sees your #ss. They are all going to see the goods anyways, so your modesty just goes right down the drain!
Also, you don't know how you will be feeling after you deliver. Whatever you feel is okay. If you don't want visitors, don't have them. It is okay! What you are about to go through is traumaic for you - emotionally and physically! I didn't have any visitors after my third because I was in labor all night and I was tired after I delivered. I am pretty sure I offended people, but I didn't care. You have to heal, and you have to take care of the person you bring into the world. You can't do that if you feel obligated to entertain when all you want to do is sleep after your marathon.
On the other hand, you may feel up to showing off your bundle and will embrace guests! Like I said, however you feel is okay and fine!

Wow, I am sorry, I didn't mean to go off on my soapbox! You can ignore me, that is okay!;)

Thanks! :)

I'm only concerned about my a$$ showing after delivery when I have potential for visitors...during labor, nope, not gonna care! lol

I will put my DH to the task of kicking people out or asking them to wait to come see us if I am tired and want to rest. Hopefully I will give birth AFTER visiting hours are over so that I have no choice but to be left alone for atleast a few hours. ;-) But, ofcourse, I can't control that! lol

I have also been given some very good advice...as much as I may think I want my baby in the room with me for the entire rest of my stay...I have been told not to be a fool. Let them keep him in the nursery if I want to rest (and he doesn't need me) because otherwise I will be up with every gurgle. I think I am gonna try really really hard to follow those words of wisdom. :)

Okay, well I gotta go do my work out....going out in a few hours and may not have the time or energy to do it later!

:)o 26 days to go...EEEK! )

I'm late replying to this - everyone gave you excellent ideas. If you're going to wear the hospital gown for delivery then don't worry about sending DH out to buy you a night gown. Just bring your pj's. They also make nursing pj's - my cousin had lent me two pairs of hers. I don't own any night gowns either.

Here's what I took:
pajamas
socks/slippers
bra/underwear (only needed them to go home since hospital provided the disposable undies)
outfit to go home in
contact lense case, solution, glasses
toothpaste/toothbrush
hairdryer, make-up, styling products
pillow (I hate those flat hospital pillows)

For baby:
only took a blanket and outfit to go home in.
baby book (the hospital was able to do his footprints)

Our hospital did a car seat check. We had a nurse escort us to the car to make sure that we had a seat. If you didn't have one you were not allowed to leave.

I agree with Dana...I don't wear nightgowns normally, just bottoms and t-shirt so that is what I packed. Didn't end up changing into them ever though since I just stayed one night and they gave me a couple hospital gowns to change into. I didn't feel like getting up and walking a whole bunch, so I never had an issue of extra draft in the back. When I did want to get out of my room and walk around a little, I just put a robe on. Bring what make you most comfortable and remember...enjoy the time and rest.

Here's what I packed and found useful:

simple bag of makeup, shampoo/cond, my brush, hairdryer (it made me feel so much better to be able to take a shower with my stuff, and it also made me feel good to put a little make up on-it helped with those black circles under my eyes).

magazines (trash ones, like Cosmo-no baby ones!!!)

Gatorade/water, breakfast bars, pretzels (for after delivery)

quarters (in case you want anything from the vending machines)

slipper socks

outfit for baby to go home in

outfit for me to go home in (also a pair of big underwear, a nursing bra and breast pads)

tube of Lansinoh lanolin for boobs (if you breastfeed)

camera and baby book to write in

my own pillow

lipgloss

toothbrush/paste

gum

I wore hospital gowns and underwear cause there is a lot of mess for a few days after you deliver-you don't want to ruin your own stuff.

That's all I can think of.

p.s. I packed two bags-one for labor (it was much easier for dh to find what I needed) and one for the hospital stay.

Hi ladies. Thanks for the tips and ideas!...Well over the weekend I packed what I deemed appropriate and enough for my hospital stay...I have a list in the bag of things that I either need to buy yet (snacks, drinks) or need to take care of at the last minute (toothbrush, etc) and anything else we can have SOMEONE get for us if we really need or want it. I am done stressing over it! YEAY! :)

For those of you aren't having your first, the smartest thing I packed the third time around were coloring books and a new box of crayons for the older two to use at the hospital

Allison

I would bring black and white film- new moms look much better in black and white. Color film picks up more of the red fact/broken capillaries than black+ white.

Also, I brought at least 3 pairs of my favorite socks- my feet were always cold during delivery. I also got amniotic fluid all over them with both births, so i changed them often during delivery. My friend who's a L+D nurse urged that unless we had beautiful feet, to wear socks during delivery. Evidently, the messiness of birthing doesn't bother her, but gross feet do.

One final thought- have your "we had the baby" email ready to go. I entered in all the addresses and saved as a draft. My husband just plugged in the statistics and the picture and pushed 'send.' Kristan

LOL! That's messed up! :7

I was actually considering treating myself to a manicure/pedicure the first week I am out on maternity leave....haven't had either in AGES! Used to get my nails done all of the time too.:-(

So if I get a pedicure and go into labor while it's still pretty fresh, then does that mean that I don't have to wear any socks cause I'll have "pretty feet"? :p
