On Saturday afternoon my 4-year old and I witnessed a fatal accident. I have never seen anyone die before and I keep seeing it over and over. I had taken Gabe for ice-cream and we were getting ready to leave and I was buckling him in his seat. The way I was kneeling on the backseat I could see directly out the back window. A man in a Blazer was going to turn into the parking lot of the ice cream place. He sort of swerved/hesitated and then decided to go and he drove right into the front of a pickup truck. I saw the look on his face, he looked so scared and he was struggling to turn the wheel. All of a sudden crash. He didn't have his seatbelt on and from the impact of the accident he flew completely across the front seats. His passenger window was down and I'm assuming that he hit his head on the part where the window comes down. I ran over and he was just hanging out of the side of his SUV limp with blood everywhere. I was shaking so bad. I ran in the store and asked the girls to call 911. In the meantime, many people stopped to help. One of the good samaritans was a lady returning from her RN graduation. I went back in the store and got a bunch of towels but he was bleeding so badly they wouldn't have helped. His ear was severed off and he was unconscious. The ambulance came within minutes and the fire company. They had to saw him out of his vehicle. I believe that he had already died by the time they got there b/c the nurse said she couldn't get a pulse. Thank goodness my son didn't see all of that but he did ask me if God was going to come down and help the man. He keeps asking about the man too. It is so hard explaining death to a 4 year old. The driver of the other vehicle did have his seatbelt on and his airbag deployed. He was ok.
I know that most of us (hopefully all of us)do wear our seatbelts but please, please buckle up everytime.
