Home Depot

Kassia - Thank goodness there are people like you who put all their efforts into autism. And thank goodness there are people who put all their efforts into cat rescue. And horse rescue. And parrot rescue. And so on. I've saved many parrots thanks to parrot rescue organizations stepping in to help out. Otherwise I wouldn't have known where to turn. When people know of an abused parrot who needs a home, they call me and I usually foster it until I can find a home - usually by hooking up with a rescue organization (see, I don't JUST help dogs! :p).

Lorie - I just hope you don't quit doing what you have done for us. It's been really helpful because I was so busy at work when this all first hit that I didn't have time to go out looking for all of this on my own and your posts with the links made it quick and easy for me to read the articles and sign the petitions. I'm off today. :) And I admire everything you do. I sure couldn't do all that you do!!! You're one of those angels Sara McLachlan sings about.

It seems there are people who are confusing this situation:

The reason why so many people are upset over what Vick has "allegedly" done is because he is being paid MILLIONS of dollars and is supposed to be a role model for others, young athletes especially.

If the accused were just a regular Joe Blow down the street, do you think there would be this much outrage and media coverage? The story probably wouldn't have gone further than the local paper. It certainly would not have garnered national attention.

This isn't about people getting upset over cruelty against dogs over other animals, child abuse, etc., but that someone of Vick's position was "alledgely" involved in such a heinous crime. It's because of Vick's stature that this case as received such attention.

My point is, the subject of Vick's cruelty just happens to be pitbull fighting. There would have been JUST as much outrage had his victims been horses, cats, monkeys, whatever.

I don't, people care about what they care about. It's not up to me or anyone else to pass judgement on others based on what our own personal beliefs are, even if it is something we strongly disagree with. At least I try not to judge. :)

I will admit, I prefer animals over most people, animals simply won't screw you over like so many people will, and animals can't speak for themselves. If a person is abused, murdered, robbed etc. the police don't stop until the case is solved or the culprit is bought to justice (and that is the way it should be), but animal crulty cases will be pushed aside if people don't speak out...so yeah I get vocal for animals...and children...and the handicapped...should I go on? :)

Since the title of this thread is “Home Depot”, I’ll address that first.

It seems to me that we would not frequent ANY store if we knew all the dirty details of every individual who has a stake in the ownership of the store. There are plenty of good and bad people at Home Depot or any other “big box” store.

I really hope that each one of us has causes that we support and are passionate about. That’s what makes the world go round. I think we all need to thank our lucky stars that we live in a country that allows us the opportunity to pour our energy into something beyond our OWN survival each day. I have noticed lately that there are a lot of dog rescue related posts. I tend to skip them as they are not why I come to Cathe.com. (I ended up here because of the Home Depot title.) It certainly is not my place to play hall monitor in the open discussion forum. However, if we all posted about our chosen causes, I believe a new forum folder would be in order!

Rogue,

I think Open Discussion allows us to post whatever is of interest to us and, hopefully, others. There are many posts that hold no interest for myself so I just skip them. It should hold the same for anyone else.

As for why people come to Cathe.com, if they are coming solely for fitness/video information, then stick to the other forums.

Just because a specific thread is posted does not mean everyone has to read it.

I am glad you are not invested in playing "hall monitor" as some others seem to be.

RE: let the flames begin

Lorrie,

Not a flame but a difference of opinion.

Vick will get his day, or year, in court no doubt. That will answer the federal criminal charges. That is his right and I agree 100% that he is innocent until proven guilty in the criminal matter. I used to be a union negotiating officer, I lost sleep representing people that deserved to be fired. They too deserved due process.

In the mean time if the football industry chooses not to hire him that has nothing to do with the constitution. Let him sue his club if he thinks he's been wronged.

We've got kids idolizing these thugs that call themselves professional athletes. I believe the teams/leagues have every right to protect the image of the sport. We need to return professional sports back to professionals acting like professionals. Professional sports has been trying to improve the image.

Do you remember the Janet Jackson/ Justin Timberlake act at the superbowl? Baseball players and "juicing"?

First of all, even though my posts sounded nasty, those who know me well know I speak differently. I'm not trying to bash anyone here if you all think so which it seems.

Animals as much as I LOVE them, for those who think I'm not a true animal lover, PAY ATTENTION CLOSELY..... Animals are not like humans. I've had a few special pets in my life but the fact is animals mostly use people for food, shelter, comfort. Some special animals will be much more than that but most are not. That is MY opinion and it's mostly a fact. I do have animals because they make me happy. One of my dogs knows me very well and she's only a year.

What angers me more is it seems like no one is fighting for special needs kids, handicapped people, etc. Like someone said, the reason why Vick is getting all the attention is because he's a big jock.

Lederr, why don't you come to my farm if you're still in NY and you will see all the animals I have and how well taken care of they are. I even *gasp* have a pit bull I adopted because no one wanted her. The reason why I put them in a shelter and BY THE WAY, it's a NO KILL shelter and they're well taken care of. I don't just dump them on some loser shelter like people would dump their newborn but does anyone care? Nah. Michael Vick is more important. And as matter of fact, I have volunteered at a shelter for horses and I have and still volunteer working with handicapped children (is that awful??). If you want to bash me about my post, go ahead. I really don't give a frog's arse because I'm done. We could argue until we're blue in the face and we're gonna stick with our opinions no matter what. I'm tired of hearing people bitch and whine about bad things celebrities do. WHO CARES??? They're going to get away with a lot of crap no matter what because they have a lot of moola and will pay to get out of the rut. I'm not saying we shouldn't fight. We should try but knowing how stupid judical system is..... And just because some people do not like animals does not mean they're mean. You're a shrink so you should know either they have bad experience with animals or just have no time for animals. Y'all can think what a mean, nasty old witch from the Eastwick I am which I could care less. You think dogs are more important than anything in life, that is fine. I think other things are more important. Let's leave it at that, ok? Have a GREAT day!

One more thing, Lederr.....What about shelters who does not believe in killing any dogs no matter how aggressive they are or no one wants them? It's ok for them to lock those poor dogs outside in an individual cage? They pace back and forth, lose their mind, a little human or another dog contact? Only because they don't want to kill dogs because they have the rights. I find that totally wrong. They're slowly killing dogs like that. That is animal cruelty, too.

>That is MY opinion and it's mostly a fact.

Really? Since when is an OPINION a FACT?

>You think dogs are more important than anything in life, that is fine.

Wow, thanks for telling me what I think and feel. That must be why, instead of continuing in a lucrative private practice, I went to work in the public school system with special needs children. That must also be why I volunteer my time on weekends to work with kids and get them involved in the community. That must also be the reason I was flown to Harvard last summer to discuss my work and research on inequities in education and needy children and families. Yeah, I definitely don't care about anything but dogs and value animals over people.

>the fact is animals mostly use people for food, shelter, comfort

Humans domesticated animals. Had we left them alone, they would not need us to provide "food, shelter and comfort." What a stupid statement. Yes, those terrible animals that WE brought into our homes. How dare they rely on us!

I am not sure why you have decided to single me out on a thread that many people have given their opinions. I guess it makes you feel better to try and make others feel badly. Sorry, you don't have that kind of control. Just because you have a new screen name doesn't mean people don't remember you or your negativity that led you to be banned from the boards.

Just stop. You are very offensive.

ZT27, maybe grammar check is in order prior to you posting?

In answer to your question, I am not sure I said anything about no-kill shelters...you did. Ask yourself that question.

Oh my gosh....Your sarcasm is killing me here. I'm laughing so hard.

You said a true animal lover do not put animals in a shelter. That is a big BS. Not everyone can afford to take care of animals. Why don't you have more than a couple of dogs??

You have no idea how many dogs I have (and I can assure you, it's more than a "couple"). You know nothing about me except what you read on this forum. Stop projecting your inadequacies onto others and direct your hostility elsewhere. You sound like a very angry person. You must be very unhappy with yourself.

I refuse to answer anything else you write. You appear to be a very unhappy troublemaker who only wants to cause problems.

Take your negativity and misery elsewhere please.

I thought you worked with girls with anorexic/bulimic problems?

I really don't care you went to Harvard to speak about your work. I went to UVA Law school so I'm glad we got that out of the way.

I really don't care if you think I'm a bitch. I really don't. I don't even want to read a book on your life story right now either so save it for people who really care about what you do and you don't do. Sorry to be nasty or grammar challenged. I guess I'm mentally challenged. Also, pay attention, Freud, because I have more than 3 posts on my name...It means I've been around for a couple of years. I just don't post on here very much, Thankfully because I have things to do but I do lurk a lot. And I know you're going to tell me to go back to lurking so save your breath. I said it already. You shrinks are freaking nuts.

I'm really don't want to fuel this fire since it seems to be getting out of hand. I just want to state two things:

1. I'm not sure why anyone has the idea that people aren't fighting for the handicapped, special-needs children, etc. There are dozens of advocacy groups that people work with that do those things. I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't know that. Just because people aren't talking about it on this board today doesn't mean it isn't happening.

2. I absolutely DO NOT CARE about Michael Vick. I ONLY care about the dogs. I don't care who is doing it--DOG-FIGHTING IS WRONG. To me, this has nothing to do with celebrity.

Personally I would much rather hear people whine and moan about some sport guy gone bad and the poor dogs that are abused because of it, than to have people think it's totally fine to think that just because a creature is not human, we, as humans, have no responsibility to treat it humanely.

We really need to stop bashing each others beliefs. If you believe differently - great, wow, cool - go out and support what you believe in. Maybe the OP should have worded the Subject line a little more clearly. But there are posts on this board that I have no interest in - I ignore them. I do not see the need to bash someone for their beliefs because they are different than yours.

"I went to UVA Law school"

I'm flabbergasted! I just can't help it; I just had to say it. You'd never know it by how you write.
