Holiday Heartaches. Yes I'm being a Grinch!

I agree that it is what you make it. My mom actually passed away on Christmas morning, but we don't let that ruin all our Christmas fun. Yes, we miss her, but life has to go on. My family has always loved Christmas, and so do the in laws, so we just roll with it. Hell, its fun to catch up on the gossip as well. And I know they talk about us, too, but I really don't give a dang. Go, put on a smile, and have fun. If someone snarks at you, give it back. "Have you gained weight?" "Yup, but not as much as you";)

Thank you Janie!!

I have such wonderful memories of Christmas. Being the only male, one of the Christmas presents from my dad was to do all the dishes for us on Christmas day. We sure tried to dirty as many dishes as we could.

As we got older we really got into stocking stuffers. We had to put all the stockings on the dining room table and most of the stuff wouldn't even fit in the stockings. I remember the first year my dad shared his Christmas bonus (from work) with us. My sister opened an envelope and then elbowed me to open a matching envelope that I had. Inside was $200! Every year after that my dad always shared his Christmas bonuses with us.

And yes, since I grew up in Illinois we had snow (many times) and LOTS of cookies!!!

Jane you are seriously going to make me cry (happy cry that is). I may just have to steal that stocking stuffers tradition.

Thanks everyone for sharing, . . . and the support, . .and the ideas, . . I already got H1N1 this year but I wonder if I can say I got it again? hmmmm. I've used the kids as an excuse already and the traffic (it takes us 5 hours of driving time to visit all the families). I'm just going to have to suck it up but Beaves I'll be sure to bring a whole lotta wine. :)

I have a small family and with loved ones passing away it has gotten smaller. I just travel with my bottle of wine and have a grand ol' time teaching my niece and nephew things to aggravate their parents ;)

And really, this is what the holidays are all about! :D

We plan to visit a live Nativity and try to make the baby Jesus cry.

Just give me college football beer food and friends and new workouts I am happy. Girrrrl right there w/ya! Since my children are 16 and 13, can't stomach another Children's Mass. Even my kids didn't voluteer this year for Christmas Mass.

I didn't realize how lucky I was to like all of my extended family. I have Christmas for everyone at my house and am amazed that everyone still is willing and able to come every year. My brother, sil, 20 and 24 year old niece and nephew drive 5 hours on Christmas day to be with us for 3-4 days. My other niece is married with 1 year old and still wants to come. Not only Christmas day but most of the next week we get together and just visit. We don't do presents. Joan

I'm out too!

I used to be all about the holidays, but for some reason this year I was not into it at all. My dad and I usually take an annual shopping trip together and this year we got a blizzard. We went out on Sunday instead and I was so over it already. I felt bad because he was all hyped up, but I just wanted to go home and sleep -which I ended up doing.

I am so over the whole rush to the mall/commercialism/hearing people complain about weight gain - seriously why did you eat that in teh first place then?/obligatory family visits/traffic. My sister and agreed to a limit the year on how much we spend. The once all day dad/daughter shopping extravaganza lasted about 2 hours at the most this year. I did manage to decorate a tree, but I am so not looking forward to taking it down next week.

I am guessing I am all Christmased out I suppose. I would rather spend Friday in my pjs and on my couch under a blanket with a good movie and some nice hot tea.
