hip fat

Cathlete
This is a little wierd, but I have fat pads over my hip bones that won't seem to go away. It's not my waist and it's not my hips. I't above my hips extending around to my back. I have been trying to clean up my diet. I was wondering if there are some specific moves that I could do to reduce this area a little. I have good abs but I am short waisted. It's like any fat I have is in this area. Any ideas. TIA!

Hey Phyllis ~

I don't have any advice but I've got the same thing going on...one day I woke up and there it was x( x( x( x( x( I blame it on perimenopause :-( :-( :-(

Oh dear, I know, I know! It isn't on the waist per say, but right below on the sides, above the hipbones right?:( Frankly, I have always had a little cushy here, but I noticed since I am "off" due to healing my new hip, I have totally stopped all wine, and processed foods. I am basically living on chicken breast, soups and fruit-my appetite kinda sucks right now. This area has gone down a little bit!:)

My waist is small, but its this area that really bugs me as well, maybe it is perimenopause, I am 41 years young:7 Oh, I have found the "mason twists" in the P90X Ab Ripper series, to be effective, it targets this area quite well. In B&G, Cathe does her own version with the 5 pound dumbells.

I think that there may not be any one exercise that you can do to get rid of that. Cardio workouts will help you to lose weight all over. Some people gain weight in the hips and some in the stomach.

Hey, Phyllis! Muffintops unite! :7

I am exactly the same, very short-waisted, and any extra fat I have is right there between my blink-and-you'll-miss-it waist and my hips. Perhaps I'm fooling myself, but I think I've always been shaped like this and that it's not related to age at all.

Alas, Robin is right. There is no such thing as spot-reducing. However, in my opinion, it is possible to look long-waisted just by what you wear. I bought some clothes this summer that really minimize my figure flaws amazingly well. No one is perfect; not even celebrities. (Okay, maybe if I could afford to pay Tracy Anderson as my PT and workout on the reformer for an hour a day I could look pretty good, but I still wouldn't be perfect). But your clothes can really make a huge difference.

Have you thought about pilates? I had some of this, after I had my son. I started practicing pilates, and really concentrating on my form, and that area really started to tone up. Just a thought.

I have those too! I think that the exercise she does on B&G with the band, the Firewalkers, might target that area. I've noticed a difference. You may want to try those. Hope this helps!

Not sure if you're a fan of TaeBo, but there are a LOT of moves in TaeBo that hit this area (almost all, in fact).

Kicking with correct form will hit it each time you raise your leg. There are also standing strait leg, side leg raises that hit your obliques as well as the saddlebags.

As someone else commented, twisting will help to slim that area, as well as machine gun kicks...

Finally, standing bent leg raises raises to the side will hit it as well as your lower back. (stand on one leg, bend the other at 90 degrees with flexed foot. Raise the bent leg to the side till it's parallel the floor. Do 4 sets of 12.)

Most of this work is accomplished in many TaeBo videos, but the one that has ALL of these moves in it is Advanced Live 4 (it's old).

As Nancy said, the right clothes help. Someone on this forum mentioned The Gaps new jean called the Essential. Those jeans are fabulous. I just bought 2 pairs. One in each color. They totally get rid of that muffin top look but they don't look like mom jeans!
