HIIT vs IT

Hello all!

I was reading the Reducing Cardio thread (FirmNurse) and I was wondering, what is the difference between HIIT and regular interval training? Is it that the breaks between intervals are shorter? I mean, for example, would doing the first 4 intervals in IMAX be considered HIIT? I'm pretty sure the Bootcamp cardio/lower body premix would classify as HIIT. This is my 2nd week doing that premix. I really enjoy it.

Thanks!

I think HIT is just a structured interval type workout to follow. Heck, if you just do high intensity intervals on a regular basis you'd probably get the same thing out of it. I cannot recommend intervals strongly enough.
Trevor :)

Trevor is totally right- I've been doing it for a few weeks now either running hills, sprinting or taking segments from Imaxs or Bootcamp. If you want to use Cathe's workouts for HIIT take the HARDEST ones you can find and repeat (i.e. #9 of Imax2). HIIT should be done for only 20-30 minutes- if you can do more than that you're not working hard enough is what I was told. I think I've already seen fat loss and the workout is faster than doing an entire 65 minute workout. See the following site for more info. HTH!

(I'm sure my Bikini Countdown mates are so tired of me preaching about it, but I feel like I've gotten a new lease after hitting a plateau:)

Hey Bren...

keep it up girl!! I am hitting interval work hard myself. Keep it going babydoll, you'll be the envy of the beach. If not, you can kick my a#$ for preaching to YOU about how great those workouts are. LOL!!
:)

RE: Hey Bren...

Thanks for the information. I'm always looking to make my workouts more efficient and I love interval workouts.

RE: Hey Bren...

Thanks T- you've been a great inspiration! Its definatly been a love/hate thing, but so wonderful when its over. I wish Cath would make some type of HIIT workout so I don't have to mix/match it myself.

Watch out or I'll HIIT myself to Annapolis and give you such a pinch!
(wouldn't that take a long time):)

I'm looking for the increased fat loss, so I've been joining Brenda on the HITT over at Bikini Countdown...btw, I'm not tired at all of you mentioning it, Brenda! You give me new ideas! So far I've used the blast mania (IMAX 2 premix), IMAX 2 blasts 5-9 two times, and BC cardio only + kickbox premixes with only about 30 seconds rest between each blast. Today I'm going to try a HIIT on the treadmill. I think it's beginning to work, too, but it's only my second week...and I've not been as intense as Brenda has! Let us know what you think, Melanie!

CinDee

Thanks CinDee- I'm starting to feel like I'm sounding like a broken record but I feel the same way... I'm not positive about the fat loss but looking in the mirror I don't think my eyes are playing tricks on me, I think I'm looking better! The treadmill is a perfect example of HIIT since you can actually program the timing and you can watch the time count down.

Thanks to all!

Unfortunately, I don't have IMAX2. I do have IMAX1. Of all the Cathe workouts I have that are/or include intervals (IMAX, CTX, CK, BC), I find the sequential power kicks to be the most intense. I can't imagine doing 20 min of these things. I'm happy to get through the ones in CK & BC.

Oh I'd love....

a pinch Brenda! LOL! You could do HIIT in a car, you know....80 mph for a minute and then 60 mph for 2 min. and repeat! Of course the gas mileage would stink but what the heck!! :)
Trevor :)
