It can be because you are low on sugar, especially if you are working on an empty stomach. I would suffer from this periodically, and it came on suddenly, where if I didn't sit down or get off my bike I was going to toss my cookies. I talked to my sports doc about this years ago and he told me too much water while cycling could cause this, along with low blood sugar. He also keyed in on my eyes, because I have an astigmatism and said that sometimes its due to being sea-sick because I can't focus as well, its akin to vertigo.
