High Step vs. Regular Step

SRP

Cathlete
Well, I'm another "new to Cathe" person and have never heard of the high step until I found this Web site. Unfortunately, my computer won't let me view the video clips of the high step workouts. Can anyone tell me how a high step workout differs from a regular step? Since the step is so high, are the moves significantly different?

Thanks!

Yeah, the high step is pretty different from a regular step. It's not a long rectangle like a regular step - it's a small square, maybe 12" x 12", and is generally used with several risers so that it's about 14" high. It's kind of like a FIRM Fanny Lifter, but it's a lot more adjustable (you can adjust the height in 2" increments). I actually use my Fanny Lifter for high step stuff (for now, until I finally cave and buy a High Step). If you go to Order Online, you can see photos of the high step on the order form there.

I just ordered the high step, as I too was using The Firm Fanny Lifter, which is not very good for Cathe workouts, and if you order the one that's $63 and change you get a high step with 5 risers and a pretty new beginner/intermediate workout DVD with it. It's a great value!! And, in Cathe's new hardcore series her DVD High Step Challenge uses the high step for cardio also. It's a great way to get more milage out of a high step if you get one.

The "high" step workouts are circuit style. Step is used at it's highest height (12-16") for leg presses & other toning work, not step aerobics. You remove some of the risers to bring to 4-8" for the cardio portions.
HTH!

I addition to what has been said...... with the pervious High Step Workouts HSTA and High Step Intermediate, a 10 inch step is used for short cardio segments within a workout that is circuit style.

Oh, sorry...I've only done HSC & assumed the others were the same height for cardio, but you get the idea.

Speaking of which, on another note, is High Step Inter. a fun workout on a "light" day for an advanced excerciser or is it truly beg/inter only?

Yes, it is fun and an excellent choice for a light day or a recovery day. If you want to bump it up a notch you can use slightly heavier weights.
