high step question

DH has no clue what to get me for Christmas so I was thinking of leading him to Cathe.com for a nice little Christmas order. I have a question about the high step - how many risers does one usually use. I notice that if you order it with risers it comes with four. Is that the amount she uses with her highstep videos? And, if so, can't I just use my four risers from my club step?

Also, what is the video/s that everyone recommends to use with the high step?

Thanks everyone for all your help as always!

Heidi

Hi Heidi!

I use 5-6 risers depending on how I'm feeling that day. I'm a little over 5'6'' and I think that height may be a factor. I ordered my high step from target and it came with a Cathe dvd (High Step Circuit). I just looked over a target.com and they are selling the high step with 4 risers for $49.99 with the dvd. It's more of an intermediate/beginner dvd, but I really like it for a light day. Also you can modify and make it more difficult if you need to. Other high step workouts I like are: Bootcamp, High Step Challenge, High Step Training and Butts and Guts (it's not used all that often in that one though).

I usually use 5 risers to make a 14" high step. That's what Cathe usually uses. The only exception I've noticed is in Muscle Endurance where she used 6 risers. That's way too high for me, at 5'2". And Cathe never used that many risers since ME - I sort of wonder if she felt that it was too high.

They sell risers and tops as a set or seperately, so you can get exactly the number of risers you need. I've purchased from them before and had no problems. And yes, your risers for the club step are the same size as for the High Step.

Be careful not to use too many risers, its bad on your knees. You really shouldn't go above a 90 degree angle with your knee when you step on the step.

I like the extra risers to make my big step higher for weight work. The risers are also perfect for holding the stability ball and keeping it from running away. I have never regreted that I bought my high step with 4 risers. The extras come in handy.

I totally agree. I use 5 risers (like Cathe) and I use more risers (6) when I make my original step into a weight bench so yes, the risers do come in handy. As far as high step workouts go, I LOVE High Step Training Advanced, Legs and Glutes, Butts and Guts, Pyramid Lower Body, well, pretty much all of them;-) . I noticed the biggest difference in my lower body using PLB 2x a week for awhile. Sometimes I would add on the sit & stands and hover squats from HSTA to the standing leg work on PLB to really fry my legs. The high step really does come in handy.

you may want to consider getting the topper for your risers here. I bought mine and it works great, the colors are different than my club step but it works.

I always owned one step, and found another same exact step at a garage sale a few years back. So, I have all the risers without the high step. I lucked out and got it for like $5-10. I was ecstatic to get one. I also got lucky one time when I bought a 3x6 glass mirror across the street for $10. It's a great workout motivator. I wouldn't work out without it. It holds you accountable for your EFFORT and great for watching your FORM. It's well worth the investment even if you don't get a deal.

Another good benefit of the two step benches is when I put the risers on, I can lay down on the step for bench work and you don't have to get so low to the ground - easy on the knees.

Have fun - working out now!!
