High fat, low calorie diet?

My mother-in-law works in a school cafeteria. Everytime there are left overs she brings me something...rice, beeftec, etc. I am trying to lose fat but the food she brings has much fat. My daughters don't eat from the food she brings and I don't know how to tell her to stop bringing me food from the school cafeteria because I don't want to hurt her feelings. I do like the flavor of the food. Do you think it will make a difference in my body fat content to eat a fatty meal a day even if the total number of calories in the day is low? Maribeth, your opinion is welcome here.

Fat is converted more easily into stored fat by the body. Both carbs and protein need more conversion, and thus use more energy. Unless it's changed, school cafeteria food isn't known for being too healthy. The fat it contains is probably more of the saturated fat that will clog your arteries (beef) or transfatty acids (from fried foods) that are even worse, and not good essential fatty acids like those in flax, walnuts, etc.

Of course, a little of anything won't have much effect if you have an overall clean diet. But once a day might be a bit much.

Lately I've been eating the same amounts of food but way less fatty and I've dropped 10 lbs in no time without trying dietwise.

I still follow the http://Radiantrecovery.com principles but with less fat. Which is actutally talked about in Your Last Diet.

I actually follow a high fat diet. It was prescribed by my physician. I eat very little saturated fat, but I do get up to 40% of my total calories from healthy fats.

You will lose weight if you eat fewer calories than you burn, period. It doesn't matter what those calories are composed of as long as you get the nutrients you need. Fat has been the scapegoat as the cause of all weight problems for too long. It's true that saturated fat causes problems, but healthy fats will not clog your arteries. The meals that she brings to you may contain lots of saturated fat however.

Hi, there! High fat isn't necessarily bad if your calorie intake is low and saturated and trans fats are avoided. Cafeteria food is most likely high in trans fats. Stick to nuts, olive oil, avacados...
