Hi I'm new, too!

Hi everyone

I'm new too, though I "recognize" a few familiar faces from the VF forum.
I'm 33 and going into my 10th week of my second pregnancy.

Question for Cathe: You have mentioned in some of your previous posts that you really felt the effect of relaxin on your body as you progressed. I had the same thing last time and had such bad piriformis/glute pain, I had trouble even walking during the last pregnancy. Just wondered if you were able to keep stepping etc, as I was told not to continue. So far things seem fine, I'm running, stepping, swimming and teaching Pump and I've noticed a bit of glute pain this week - I'm going to get it checked out right away.

Looking forward to meeting you all,
Liz

Hey Liz! I'm not Cathe but I'm very interested in her response and what type of information you get after you get your glute pain checked out. I'm 12 weeks with my first and I also teach BodyPUMP, step and I run as well. Can't wait to hear what you find out!

Hi Liz!

I just wanted to say congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to the forums! I will leave the answers to your questions to those that are better informed. I do hope that you don't have as much trouble this time. Take care of yourself and keep us posted on what your doctor says. :)

Hi Liz! Congratulations on the news of number 2!

I'm not sure why you were told not to continue stepping, and it certainly isn't my place to question your caregivers decision so I will not comment on that (not that you even asked me to ;-)).

For myself however, yes I did continue stepping but only on a 4 inch platform and modified as I needed to on a daily workout basis. This pregnancy I have not had near the joint pain that I experienced last pregnancy. Just as of very recently I am experiencing groin discomfort (which I think is fairly normal at 32 weeks into a pregnancy) and minor lower back discomfort (mainly during deadlifts and deadrows in weight training classes and bob and weaves in kickbox class).

Since you have stated that you are starting to experience some glute pain, I'm happy to hear that you are getting it checked out. My suggestion in the meantime is to cutback on either frequency or duration (or both) of your workouts and with the workouts that you are doing, modify whenever possible. Also, completely talk through any portions of class that bring on the slightest odd sensation in your glute area. Good Luck and keep me posted!

RE: Joint pain was no fun :(

Thanks for your experience, Cathe!

I am banking on what they say about no two pregnancies being the same and not having as many problems this time around with the old joints!

The glute pain seems to have subsided and I'm doing a lot of thorough stretching of the glutes, hip flexors, quadratus lumborum and erector spinae. I'm still keeping a very close watch on it though.

32 weeks - you're almost on the down hill run now!

Take care,
Liz N.
