Hey all you runners out there?

How many of you run 5 days a week or more and how do you know when you can go ahead and add another day to your running? Even if that other day is a much shorter run than the usual? Thanks

I am trying to be a "runner"...working on it!! I started in January and pretty much have been doing 5 days a week. I would cheerfully add another day or two but I know it will benefit my body more to

1. Take a rest day...body needs to recovery to get better and stronger. Avoiding a rest day only increases my chance of injury, burnout, overtraining and body cannot rebuild.

2. I do not at a 6th day to avoid overtraining. Cross training improves my running performace, helps with functional fitness, keeps me from hitting a plateau, strengthens and develops muscles and parts that running doesn't put enough stress on.

I say stick to 5 days and do something else the other day or two. One day do step or kickbox and on your rest day do Yoga.

Thanks, I recently started myself so I'm only running 4 days a week right now. I do like the variety of adding running to my fitness regime, it's nice. I'm also hoping some of that stubborn stomach fat will come off with this, I tend to hold my fat in the stomach area. However you look great!! Hopefully the running will help me. Do you ever do Cathe cardio on the same day as a run? Just curious

A general rule of thumb I follow is not to increase my weekly mileage by more than 10% to avoid injury. So it might depend on how much you add for the 5th day. For example if you are running 20 miles a week don't increase that mileage to more than 22 weekly miles the next week. Hope this makes sense....:)...Carole

No, I do not add more Cathe cardio on the days I run. I usually run for at least 40-45 minutes (depending on what my training schedule calls for) so I consider that to be sufficient cardio for the day. Also, I have a (what could be considered bad) habit of working until I feel "worked out" so again, no more cardio needed.

Thanks you guys all of it is really good advice. I have the tendency sometimes I think to overdue it, my body seems to be able to handle this but I have to be careful. Thanks

Hi There,

I love to run, and when I was training for a marathon a few years back I believe I did run 6 days a week and, boy, did it take a toll on my knees! I now try to run no more than 4-5 days per week, and I feel that I am in much better shape, and my knees don't hurt, now that I am varying my cardio.

I actually have done Cathe cardio with a run on occasion--I'll just run less--usually I run 60 minutes, but on occasion I will do Kick, Punch, and Crunch with a 30 minute run, or a circuit workout (bootcamp or circuit max or HSC or Cardio and Weights) with a 30 munte run after for a little more cardio. But that is only on occasion, when I want a little extra cardio, or when the weather is a perfect day for running and I simply can't resist!

Hope that hellps!

Dukechick:)
