Help... late evening eating!

Hello all,

Since I work out in the evening every day, I find that I am really hungry by 9 pm. (I do a lot of weight work as well). Does anyone have this problem?

Apparently from the dietary information that I read, if your trying to lose weight (just a little, for me) then you shouldn't eat after say, 7 or 8 pm.

I normally eat about 4 to 5 small meals a day- my evening snack attack is included in this.

What's the best way to break myself of this habit? I feel like I'm hurting my workout results. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and keep up the good work. :)

Jen

I'd say as long as your eating a healthy snack at this hour it's okay! It's those that choose to eat cookies and cake late at night that it hurts! Since you're only eating 4-5 meals a day maybe make this one a small, healthy one! You're body will need some nourishment after your workout, but you don't need a full meal! Susan

Hi Jen! I too am a PM exerciser & usually finish at 9. I make myself a protein shake. Gotta get in that protein quickly after all that weight training. Try to eat 6 small meals a day instead of just 4-5. HTH, Kathy;)

More of the same advice from me. I work out after work, usually around 7 or 7:30. I have some protein powder mixed with something, or an apple and a bit of cheese, some raw nuts, something like that. Probably 250-300 high quality calories, then I shower, brush teeth and read a book in bed until I'm sleepy. It works for me and I am not hungry, or gaining weight.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for the posts. :) You all gave great tips. The key is healthy eating at that time. I admit, I'm not always so good at that! x(

Protein sounds like a safe bet. Sometimes I don't feel like I get enough throughout the day, considering all of the weight lifting that I'm doing.

I will also, try the "6 small meals/day" approach. Thank you everyone!

I disagree with a lot of the info about not eating before bedtime, especially if you are strength training and working out. Your body needs fuel, healthy fuel. I eat my last meal about 15 minutes before going to bed and eat 6 meals a day total.

I always work out evenings and eat afterwards. I have no weight gain whatsoever. I think it is more how much you consume versus when you eat. When I complete a workout, within 30 minutes I am starving!

I don't gorge, but I eat enough to take the edge off so I can go to bed not starved to death!
