Help choosing a step workout!

I'm a Firm/FitPrimer, but I have recently began doing Cathe's workouts. I have MIS, Power Hour, Body Max, Push and Pull, Supersets, Boot Camp and Muscle Endurance. I have on order Legs and Glutes and Kick, Punch and Crunch, High Step Advanced Training, plus I have preordered 3 of the HC series Muscle Max, Kick Max and High Step Challenge. I love all of the workouts and I am seeing results.

As you can tell, I have steered away from the step videos, because Body Max and me are not doing so well together. I am having a very difficult time doing it. I can't get the steps down! I do alright until the turns around the step come up and I get lost. I really want to have more cardio workouts and love the step. I used to do Step N Motion I, II and III. (By the way what happened to II and III? Did they change names?)But I was younger then. I'm 49 now and evidently things have changed!

Do any of you have any suggestions on which step workouts I might be able to learn and stick with them? The interval workouts look really good to me and I would love to have them, but I'm afraid to get them, simply because they have step sections in them.

HELP PLEASE!

THe Classics DVD has three workouts on that are not to complicated, IMO. They all contain similar steps, so you can learn them.

As for Step in Motion II and III (III was my first Cathe workout, and I loved it!), they are just out of print. I don't know why they still sell I and not II and III. Maybe someone at SNM will answer that.

I'm not surpised you have trouble with Body max: it's too darn fast.

I would try a re-introduction to Cathe via Step Fit, Powermax and Step Works. Then if you are happy with these, come forward in time to Cathe's more recent cardios such as theose from CTX series, Rhythmic Step and Step Blast.

I don't know if this is the same as Kathryn's suggestion because I don't know what is on the Classics DVD. Apologies for possible repetition.

Thanks so much! Are there any of the intervals or circuit type workouts that use the step that would not be so hard?

I think the other posts gave you some great ideas! There is the Cardio Kicks (kickboxing) & Circuitmax DVD. I don't know if you want another Kickbox workout but Circuitmax uses light weights and some step and some floor in a circuit style workout. Imax2/Cardio & Weights DVD might be a consideration too. I will say though Imax2 is a very intense interval workout and might give you some trouble but I feel Cardio & Weights is alot easier IMO and is a circuit style workout. You might just get them all like the rest of us Catheites!!....:)...Carole

Thanks Carole,

How does Imax2 compare to the intensity level of Boot Camp? I just love Boot Camp!

How does Imax2 compare to the intensity level of Boot Camp? I just love Boot Camp!

First in Imax2 there are no weights used and it is using the step. Bootcamp is faster thru the intervals but of course very fun! Imax2 does a warm-up on the step, then an interval and then a cooldown and that is repeated 10 times. Somebody might actually have the time breakdown for Imax2...it is advanced...but fun also....:)...Carole

I'd probably go with Cardio & Weights and/or Step, Pump and Jump. They are not pure step workouts (they are circuits) but the step sections are not hard to learn. Plus, they are both very fun.

S,P & J also comes with Step Blast (on the DVD) which is my personal favorite. It can be a little tricky though, but once you've mastered the easier stuff, it would be waiting there for you.

The C&W DVD comes with IMAX 2, which is awesome. Most of the step is pretty easy to learn but it is very intense.

Bodymax is a killer! Don't use that as your standard for step workouts. It's a great high intensity workout but tough.

I agree with step/jump/pump. The choreography moves slower and is not too hard to pick up. In fact, you could first practice this one on the floor - I've done this one on the floor and it translated perfectly.

When I first started with Cathe and wanted to learn her choreography, I started with the "Get in Shape for your wedding Tape." It's a good cardio workout but the choreography is low impact and easy to learn.

I knew if all of them were like Body Max, I might as well not even try! I would learn a section and then I would hear those dreaded words, "We are putting it all together and adding on!" At that point I ended up just watching and wondering...."How in the world!"

Imax 1 might be a good one. I think the choreography isn't that complicated. She repeats the short step routine 6 times. Imax 2 has trickier choreography. Imax one will give you a great, challenging workout. Hang in there it will come!
