HELP - Bleach ??

My daughter just spilled bleach on one of my favourite tops on the arm. It is a dark brown colour. Is there anything I can do? or do I just have to throw it out.

Can I get brown dye and dye it?

I would think its time for the garbage :( That being said, it could be worth a few bucks for a box of brown dye to see what happens. If it works YAY:) If not, you're out $3 and a shirt :(:(

You could try dye ...

You could try to match the color with brown dye, but I don't know how good the results would be. How large a spot? How visible is the area? What kind of fabric is it?

In addition, bleach weakens the fabric, so it's possible that your shirt won't last much longer anyway.

Time to lock up the bleach! :D

Yea, I think it is garbage but I might just try the dye to see what happens. It was a brand new shirt that I wore only once and I really liked it. I am not 100% sure but I think it is cotton.

It was my 18 year old DD, she was carrying the bleach and a load of clothes and some how spilt is a little. There are actually two bleach spots one about the size of a quarter and the other about the size of a dime.

There's not much you can do to 'unbleach' clothes. But please don't just throw it out if it could be recycled in some way.

Wear it for around-the-house dirty work. If it won't work for that, tear it up and use it for rags for cleaning. (If you have dogs or cats, you can use part of it to clean up messes, then throw it out).

My brand new shirt - I don't want to throw it away or use it for rags.

My daughter gave me a suggestion and said that I could always where it but with a sweater, that way the bleach won't show. So I am thinking about that as well.

If worse comes to worse, I will cut it up and use it for rags.

1. You can cut off the sleeve, and make a short sleeve or no-sleeve shirt.
2. Crinkle up the sleeves on both sides so that the bleach does not show and sew them gathered up.
3. Put an iron on patch over the bleached area.
4. Applique a piece of fabric over the damage.
5. Buy some wide ribbon and sew it to cover the bleached area (either wrapped around the sleeve or down the lenght). Put ribbon on the other side to match.
Maybe look at the damage as an opportunity to spruce up the shirt.

Thank you for the ideas. I will really think about it. Maybe cutting off the sleeves and making it a three quarter length or short sleeve might work. I will have to check and see how far down the bleach is again. I think a three quarter length might just work.

Thanks!!

What a great list of suggestions from DragonFly! How creative! What a great shirt you could create and it would be original!
