Heel spurs, anyone?

After a few months of thinking I just had a bad bruise on my heel from hiking on rocky surfaces, I now think it's a bone spur. It's definitely not Plantar Fasciitis because the symptoms just don't match. I'm going to try a heel insert with a hole under the painful area, but if anyone has any experience with these I'd love to know how you dealt with it. TIA!

Hi Ann! I had this same problem a couple of months ago. I tried those gel heel inserts for a while in all my shoes and now, I have no more heel pain!! ;)

Hi, Ann, I am the Plantar Faccsiitis Queen. An interesting fact about bone spurs is, they rarley cause pain. I have one but it was the inflammation of the plantar facsia that caused the trouble. Do you feel pain in the morning upon waking or feel as if you want to walk on your toes to alleviate it? Those were my symptoms and I tried physical therapy, cortisone and orthotics before resorting to surgery to relaes the facsia at the connection to the heel. All symptoms and pain have gone. Most of the time, the first therapies take care of the problem. Surgery is rarely necessary. Try gel inserts but if pain persists, get thee to a podiatrist!

Thanks for the replies, ladies. I'm pretty sure it's not Plantar Fasciitis because it's never worse in the morning (infact it's always better then), it's only in one foot, and the pain is very local right at the back of the heel. I start inserts today. I'm the oddball who doesn't mind waiting for the DVDs because my body is too broken for them right now anyway!
