I have a question on heart rates. When I went for my surgery and came out and in the recovery my heart rate was in the upper 40 to low 50's, what is a heart rate supposed to be at? Is mine normal?
Hi Leslie -- were you under a general anesthesia while in surgery?
I think heart rate is an individual thing. Right now, my resting heart rate is 60; Cardio workouts have not been my favorite exercise. We just bought a spin bike and I'm finding I enjoy it, therefore, I will be doing more cardio than before and it will be interesting, through training, where my resting heart rate lands. The normal ranges that I've read lately are between 30-100. Yours being where it was after surgery sounds good. Try taking your pulse in the morning before getting out of bed to see where you land. It could be a little higher or about where you were after surgery.
Lance Armstrong, for instance, as a RHR of 32. He's 32 y/o, weighs in the 150's and rides and trains like an animal. He is, of course, an elite athlete.
If you were under general anaesthesia or sedation, your heart rate and blood pressure will be lower than your normal resting heart rate and blood pressure. My resting heart rate averages between 58 and 62.
