HEART RATE QUESTION

Hi everyone,

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. I workout
5-6 times per week, and only with Cathe tapes. I have been this active for about 3 years (with a little break to have a baby, 10 months ago) Anyway my heart rate is always between 175-190 after the warm up and until the cool down. My resting heart rate is between 55-65. I know my max heart rate is 190 so this seems a little high. I am not that winded during my workouts(unless it is imax2), but I wonder if this is ok. Thank you in advance to anyone who may help me!!

How do you know that your max hr is 190? Did you get it measured or you just follow some formula?

Hi Mary

Those formulas are not always 100% correct for everyone. If you are not too winded @ 175-190 that means you are in your aerobic zone, though close to your lactic treshold zone - that is in between aerobic and unaerobic. You have to find out your own max heartrate if you want to use hr monitor succesfully. If you can't have it tested in a lab, the best way to find it out is to go outside and run for about 20-30 min at a decent pace. At the end of the run find a steep hill and run it up a few times. For the last time run it up as fast as you can. When you are purple in the face and ready to puke that's the effort (and number) that is close to max heartrate.
Hope this helps, Mari

Hi Mary,
Something's not right there. I think if you were working out at your HR max you'd know it. You'd feel like you were going to die.....
Search this site for "heart rate" and I am sure you'll find a decent method for calculating max HR and your work zones. This topic has been discussed many times throughout Cathe's Open Discussion.
