Hello. This question is for Cathe or anyone else who has some advice. I would like to give my husband a heart rate monitor for Christmas but not sure wish one is best for him. His an advocate runner, runs 4 times a week avaraging about 28 miles, and swims plus his trying to loose weight. Any recomendations would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in Advance!

Obviously I am not Cathe but I would recommend checking the Polar RS200

here is the info on it:
Polar RS200 - The RS200 was made for goal oriented runners who want to prepare for their first running event or who want to enhance their running experience. Use the Polar Sports Zones and the Event Countdown Timer to manage your training for that key running event. You can even upload your settings to your running computer and then download your workout files to the Polar Running Coach Web Service for analysis. WearLink fabric transmitter included.

This is the most popular one at the gym I go to. It runs around 139 and you can get this thing that ataches to your shoe and provides even more information.

has alot of info there

GARMIN!!! This is a runner's watch and it is SUPER cool!! It tracks your heart rate, your calorie burn, your pace, your distance, and so much more!! It is amazing!! I have a ladies IMO and it is ok, works sometimes, sometimes I am throwing it across the room in frustration (literally). Everyonce in a while I will borrow my husband's garmin when I go for a run outside, simply AMAZING this watch!!

Check it out online, I am sure you can go to garmin.com or something like that. If Garmin is out of your price range, go to a local running store, they will help you out. But GARMIN is just so COOL!

I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 that I absolutely love. I lost it last Sunday (left it on the hood of my truck), but luckily found it. Otherwise, I'd have been stopping by REI to pick up a new one. I just don't exercise without it.

Hi Thanks! I'm looking at the Garmin rorerunner 50 and the Garmin 305. Witch one does your husband own? Thanks!

I am not sure which one he has and I can't reach him right now, out of town training future soccer stars... but it is the most elite one with the most bells and whistles I now that much. He got it last year so that might help, sometimes watches get more improved over the years.

If you go to a runners store and tell them what your husband perfers or how he runs they are very good at matching up stuff. I do this for christmas every year for my husband... tell them his running style (how much he runs a week, how far he goes and so on) and they give me some really great ideas for what to get him.

Good luck! I am sure any runner would be so surprized and happy to get a garmin!

If it's boxy with a red face, it's a Forerunner 305. If it's more rectangular, it's a Forerunner 301 (an earlier model).

I suspect he has a 305. Those are hands down the best units for joggers. GPS reception is very good, the HR strap is more comfortable than the 301 and you can get an optional bike cadence accessory and a foot pod to go with it. Very nice. I use mine for training my horse as well as training me. So it gets used almost every day.

Then my husband has the Forerunner 305. I love that thing! I used it just a handful of times because mine doesn't track distance and I like to know how far I am running outside.

The only downside I found about this watch is when you travel you have to reset it. Doesn't take but a minute, but I was unware of this so my first jog when I traveled was very frustarting, until I figured it out. Ops. Other than that, hands down this is a joggers watch, you said that best!!
