Heart Rate Monitors

Hi Cathe, I'm new to your forum and am impressed, would love to do a rotation with you!

I would like to purchase an HRM and was wondering if you had any suggestion?? Since I've gotten older I can't seem to do your workouts if I don't eat enough but then I can't loose weight. I have about 8 pounds to loose, the last are always the hardest! I thought knowing exactly what I eat and burn may help me achieve my goal. Thank you for any help you can give!

Hi Pauline! Based on your note I'm not sure if you are understanding that a heart rate monitor will not tell you how many calories you have burned. They are designed to let you know if you are training in a zone that is compatible with your goal and or current fitness level.

I personally like to use perceived exertion to test my heart rate rather than a heart rate monitor but if you prefer heart rate monitors, you will need to read up on all the features to see which one best suits your needs. Here are a couple of the top choices out there.... Good Luck!

Hi Cathe, thanks so much for your reply. I guess I'm referring to one that records calories burned as well as heart rate. Someone else told me about Nike watches that do just that. How accurate do you think something like that is?
 
Hi Pauline! It is obvious from my not using them that I am out of touch with these fun features they include ;-) Also, I am not familiar enough with the product to comment on its accuracy.
