Heart Rate Monitor Question

The other day I was exercising, wearing my HRM, it was working fine. At the end of my hike I looked down and noticed that two zeros were displayed where my HR would normally be on the watch. Since I was done with my workout, I shrugged my shoulders. I just replaced the battery in the watch itself, have never messed with the transmitter.

Then the next day I went and hiked with hubby. He wore my old HRM, but since I have a coded one (M32) I thought we would have no problems. Well, when he got to close to me, my HRM reflected his numbers. That kinda pissed me off considering I THOUGHT my HRM was not supposed to pick that up. Anyway, throughout the course of the hike my HR seemed rather low. I mean, I knew I wasn't dying or anything, but it seemed I was working harder than 120 bpm, which is almost the highest number it gave me. On the more even parts of the hike it was saying 103 or even 88! ??????

I have just been getting back into shape so I have been doubtful that this is right. The HRM is about two years old but according to Polars website the transmitter should last 2500 hours. DON'T think I have used it THAT MUCH!! The transmitter was wet and all.

What do you think I have to do?? (you are supposed to tell me that the whole thing is shot and I need to get that new F whatever it is so that I can measure my workouts, lol)}(

No really, how do I fix it? Do I have to buy a new transmitter?:D

Thanks!!!

I have the M32 and it gives me interference when I get near the TV with it, I mean within 3'. I called the company and they said this is normal. Also, while riding my bike outside, I've ridden under power lines and it will stay at zero. I think mine may be malfunctioning. Haven't dealt with it yet, but guess I should. Bummer that I can't use it in the house as I'm pretty close to the TV when I work out.

I'll be following this thread to see if anyone else has suggestions.

I am having the same exact problem. I emailed Polar and they emailed me a huge list of the "normal" things to check. They are just the same things that are in the manual. I have been trying to open the strap, so that I change the battery, but I can't even get that open. I think I am going to end up just buying a new strap. Today is my "drop dead" day to open the compartment and see if I can change the battery. I have almost ruined the little slot on the battery compartment, because I can't get it open. If I can't get it open today, I am going to buy a new strap.

Sorry, but I think your receiver is fine and I can't tell you the whole thing is broken :p I think you probably do need a new strap though.:7

I would send in the strap transmitter and have the battery changed. What you have experienced is similar to what I have had happen and I send in the strap and everything is fine. Not sure their transmitter lasts for 2500 hours like the site says...:)

Gosh, I've had my transmitter now over 4 years...and never had it changed....although I did have had my battery changed by Polar somewhere around 5, 6 or 7 months ago (it has been a while). I sent my the transmitter along with it when I had the battery changed but they said I didn't need a new one so they never replaced it. I don't ever get any interference from anything or anyone else, but I do own a different model (S610i).

I have an F11 that's less than a year old and it sometimes go zooey on me when I'm on the treadmill. Possibly from the tv, possibly from the HR monitor built into my treadmill's computer (I don't use that one anymore--wanted a separate monitor I could wear for all kinds of cardio). I've also gotten a 00 reading when walking around my kitchen before working out. For me, the problem is often that the strap is drying out and I need to rewet it.

I don't know my model #, but I have been having the same problem with mine lately. It is only a year old, and I haved changed the "watch" battery thinking that was the problem. I have found however one thing that seems to help is making sure the strap is just about soaking wet...I figured that perhaps here is AZ the atmosphere is just too dry. I never had any problems in VA. I wish we could find out exactly what is wrong.....

Janice,
I have the F11 HRM. When I am out walking, I am hard pressed to get my HR above 100 -- unless I am walking up a hill. My RHR is 42, so I would think that 100 is accurate for me. Now, when I am teaching or taking a step class, my HR will go up as high as 92%.

I finally got the back off of mine and tested the battery. It is absolutely fine. So, I think my strap is just toast. If the reason it isn't working is that it picks up too much interference from TVs or equipment, I guess it is just a worthless tool for me.

I believe you send BOTH parts to Polar's service center and they will email you and tell you what you need. I think both segments are $20 each or something like that, so it's still cheaper than a new HRM.

I have a Polar M52 and mine has never worked right. The only thing activity that I feel that I get accurate readings from is spinning. Every other activity I do, the numbers are all over the place and I find myself getting irritated.

When I first got my HRM, I sent it back to Polar and they tested it and said it was fine. I have no idea why it doesn't work right. I only use it for spinning now because I don't like getting aggravated when I work out!
