Healthy salad dressing ideas...

Hi all,
I am looking for a healthy salad dressing to either buy and if it is to make something that is very simple.
I like Paul Newman's light dressing but am also looking for something that doesn't have sugar in it.

Would it be best to use olive oil and buy a good balsamic vinegar and mix the 2?

TIA,
Sham

I use 1 teaspoon olive oil and 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar and 1 TBS reduced fat feta cheese. You can skip the cheese if you want.

I don't mix them in a bottle or anything, I measure it all out for each salad...which takes 3 seconds. I've been doing this for a few years and have yet to get tired of it.

I like salsa on my salads. The kind I use is fat-free and has no added sugar. Or if I have tomatoes and jalapenos around, I'll make it myself.

Here's a healthy fat free creamy dressing idea:

2 Tablespoons non-fat yogurt
Dijon mustard(to taste)
1 packet splenda
Balsamic vinegar (enough to make it somewhat thin)

Taste and adjust.

My DH loves this one and he doesn't like anything "diet".

I found a balsamic and vinaigrette dressing at the supermarket made by Maple Farms. I think the calories were like 5 for 2 tb. I thought it was pretty tasty.

Thanks for the ideas. I think they will also prove to be a lot cheaper than buying as well.

Thanks again
Sham

I've bought some of the Maple Farms dressings before and they're yummy!

I amke my own. I started off with one that Debbie H gave me and tweeked it a little.
I don't measure, so I will guess as to the portions.
1 C. Olive oil (organic)
1/3 C. balsamic vinager
2 tbls. grey poupon mustard
1 tsp. onion powder

That's it and it's really nummy. You can add or subtract whatever you'd like. Like I said I don't measure anything out, so this is a guess as to the portions. But I think it's pretty accurate.

Low sodium soy sauce + lemon juice..equal parts, if I remember right. You can add garlic/grated parmesean to that too..

This is what I use when I'm eating clean:

1 Tablespoon flax seed oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
half of a lemon

Mix together and drizzle over salad. Very tasty. You can always add some stevia (or other sweetener) if you don't care for tart items.

Oh, Candi. What is balsamic GLAZE??? I'm very interested in that!

I use ONLY balsamic vinegar. Nothing else and LOVE IT!

Gayle,
Not Candi, but I believe that balsamic glaze is reduced balsamic vinegar. You simply place balsamic vinegar in a sauce pan (I find that the cheaper kinds actually work better than the more expenive) and bring it to a simmer and let it reduce about half (it should coat the back of a spoon). On word of warning, this can give off a strong fume so don't inhale directly over the pot and you may want to use open a window or use and exhaust fan. It won't stink up the house or anything, but it might make your eyes water if you get too close. This thicker, richer concoction can be drizzled on cooked veggies, salads, even fruit and is absolutely delicious.:9
