Hi all!

Is our thread dying out already?

I didn't sleep last night, which usually happens once or twice a week, and I ended up eating a whole bag of soy chips at 5AM. I was kind of mad at myself, but the bag is only 350 calories, and at least I got some protein. Trying to look on the bright side :) I felt better after I slept for a bit and just had some strawberries and a banana a few minutes ago. Not a bad day.

How's everyone doing?

Gina

Gina...I do hate it when I don't sleep well! I do understand those tasty soy chips too...:)...but you are right, more protein that the regular ones and it has to be a better fat used! The nap probably helped a bit and I think fruit is great anyway. I did good today but I will probably be tired this week as I am doubling up more on my workouts so I can get it all in before Sat, as I will be doing another run. I made a corn and potato soup from the Eat to Live book. It was good for dinner with a big salad...(I feel like Elaine from Seinfeld when I say that..:))...then had a nice dessert shake with fruit, vanilla soymilk and some vanilla protein powder...I think why some people haven't started a new thread is because they seem to post a few days on the old one..:)...Carole

Hi Carole,

Another run on Saturday? Good for you (Elaine) lol!

I ate cookies last night- those horrible vanilla sandwich ones, ugh. About two years ago, I was doing very well with my diet and exercise. I felt really good. I'm exercising similarly now, but I'm not seeing the same results or feeling as good. I think my protein intake is a problem. Previously, I ate protein at every meal, usually turkey, chicken, a protein shake or bar. I never felt hungry. I think my cravings have something to do with my lack of protein, and I need to find a way to get more in. I won't go non-vegetarian, so I'll probably have to find some protein shakes. Do you mind telling me which protein powder you like?

Thanks :)
Gina

Its the homemade cookies that get me! Chocolate chip dunked in milk!! I had a problem with thinking I didn't get enough protein either when I went Vegan. I use mostly vanilla flavor. I get a Vanilla Whey Protein powder at www.beachbody.com and I also use one I get at a local Health food store, it is also Whey and the flavor is Vanilla ice cream.....very good...:)...Carole

Hi Ladies,
Sorry I haven't checked in lately.I have been so busy with the house, work and the child.I don't think I checked my e-mail until late last night.
My eating hasn't been the best but today is a new day, right? I had 1/2 of a whole wheat&honey bagel for my breakfast and I just finished doing BC.I was having an off morning.I didn't feel sleepy but I didn't feel energetic.I actually thought about not working out.BAD ME!!!! I didn't listen though, I kept going and now it is over with.
I hate not having a good night sleep.Last night I sat up in bed and just looked around for a while.I was obviously in some sort of dream where I was getting up to do something but I woke myself up when I sat up.Then I sat there for a few minutes...very confused.I only have one early morning this week and thats saturday.
Our schedule at work is very busy.We were covering shifts for a new girl who just got hired on.For this job you have to go away for 3 weeks training and you have to get 85% to be able to work at it.There is a test EVERYDAY,mid terms and finals.Well,I don't know what happened to her, weather she decided it wasn't for her or if she failed, but she is comming home.Which makes work even harder b/c they have to hire someone else now, wait for a training class and then send them away for 3 weeks.Needless to say,I think Aug is going to be a write off.The course is very stressful and you have to be pretty on top of things to pass it.I think the lady that just went away was a high strung person and probably not the best for the job.To bad though, b/c she was a really nice lady.
Anyway,on that note, I better get showered and head to work.
Lori:)

Well, I had a bowl, probably a cup and a half of WW's Moosetrack's last night. Otherwise, all eating was good. I am mad at myself for eating that.
Lori

Do regular exercisers always beat themselves up for enjoying a bit of good food whether it be soy chips or ice cream (or god forbid McDonald's)? It seems that if people are regularly doing Cathe and other workouts binging on an occasional bag of soy chips (I'd rather the small bag of Lays BBQ chips myself) shouldn't be worth beating oneself over. Speaking for myself, I exercise regularly to improve health, overall fitness, and enjoy eating the foods I want to eat (using portion control of course!). I shouldn't read these boards because they leave feeling guilty for having eaten something tastey! lol!

Lori....don't sweat it, I have never met someone that has cheated a bit and not been a bit upset with themselves! I have done it myself. Just remember tomorrow is a new day and forget the Moosetrack's. I bet it fell right in with the 90% rule. Which is a very good rule to follow...:)...Carole

RE: Healthy Eating- Weekly?

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if you would like to keep a weekly thread instead of a daily thread? Would that be more convenient?

Gina

RE: Healthy Eating- Weekly?

Don't matter to me.We could keep the same thread until it gets to long.
I hope my day gets better.I got woken up to early by my daughter. When I was sweeping the floor,a ornament which I had moved from one place (not sure where I was going to put it)was hanging on the door knob, when I closed the door it broke.I swept up the glass, and took the other half (that didn't break)and put it in the garbage. But the garbage bag was full so I took it out (it was a grocery bag) and hung it on the cupboard door knob until I got the mess cleaned up.Well.....thats when the other piece of the ornament slipped through the hole and broke. So I had two piles of glass broken on my floor. Not to mention that my vacuum broke and I can;t find my dust pan.I had to tear off some paper from a exercise book and use that as my dust pan.
And the dog fur is driving me nuts.I love my dog to pieces but why all the FURRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its everywhere. He must be shedding his winter coat b/c I can't remember seeing this much fur before.Would be alot easier if I had a vacuum! I think I am going to go buy a new one.
Yesterdays eating was so-so.I git really hungry around 3:30 and decided to have some candy. We went out last night for a couple of hours and I had two drinks.I am really going to start watching myself though.I think I am going to go back to counting cals.I did that before and I was at a happy weight.I just got to get the motivation back!
I will check back later.
Lori:)

RE: Healthy Eating- Weekly?

Hi Lori,

I'm sorry you had a bad start to the day. Waking up and immediately having things awry is so discouraging. I hope the day gets much better.

I have a dog too, and his fur is ingrained everywhere. I saw a product on QVC a while ago and really wanted to buy it after seeing the demonstration. (I am sooo weird- when I'm on the computer I leave either QVC or CNN on in the background.) Here is a link to the product: http://www.qvc.com/asp/frameset.asp?class=0011&tmp=hp&cont=mhhi

I had some mini black & white cookies yesterday. I'm off to the supermarket again tomorrow to find a good protein shake that might curb some of these cravings. I don't know how or when, but the motivation WILL come back!

Have a good day!
Gina

Hi Smarty,

I'm sorry if I'm passing on the guilt. I don't think all avid exercisers beat themselves up over eating junk food. Logically, I know in the long run and in the grand scheme of things it's not such a big deal, but it's hard to break the habit. I grew up around this kind of behavior, so it's going to take me a while to outgrow it, hopefully.

Gina :)

Ah, I see. Just remember that stress could cause you wrinkles so don't stress about it. LOL! I know I have read various posts about "clean" eating and other diets. It sounds too complicated. I just try to eat in moderation and do my best to beat myself up for having eaten an occasional cupcake...or two...ok maybe three but that's it. LOL!

RE: Healthy Eating- Weekly?

HI Everyone,
Today is going much better then yesterday. It helps that I bought a new vacuum yesterday.
Eating was good yesterday.I have been having a very weird stomach lately. When I eat it always feels like I have eaten to much.(not sure if I whined about this in my last post or not)So yesterday I wrote down what I ate, I listened to my body and I felt good all day.I wasn't bloated or stuffed.I decided to go for a run last night and I was pretty lazy at this point, after working all day, so I grabbed a cookie on my way out the door.My run was going to be 70 min long, I needed a boost at some point. Up to the point of the cookie, my calorie intake for yesterday wasn't even 900 cals. But I felt good and I wasn't hungry.
I am confused b/c I know I should be eating more but not for the sake of being uncomfortable and I am not hungry.Should I force myself to eat more? Now by the time I went to bed, I had probably eaten about 1300 cals. Not to bad but I know my run probably burned around 600-700 cals. Not only that but my scale never moves. Now my cals are probably more then that on any other given day when I am not writing things down. Its just very confusing.I listened to my body and thats what it wanted.I dunno!
Anyway,I was just getting ready to do HST, but I realized that my daugther needs to be picked up at 12, and it is 11:10.I don't have time to workout and get a shower.I get off at 5 so I may be able to wokrout later today.
Thanks for the info on the dog fur.I should check it out.I am in Canada though so it could be a little more costly for me.
Chat to you later,
Lori:)

RE: Healthy Eating- Weekly?

Hi Lori,

I have days that I'm not very hungry at all. I generally find that over the course of a week, things seem to balance out. Do you feel hungrier after a lower calorie day? If you find that the week doesn't balance out and your not getting enough calories, you could try some juice when you are feeling full. I'm not really into juice, but it might be an option if you don't want to eat anything but think you should get in more calories that day. If you bought a healthy juice without too much sugar, you could definitely consider it clean.

Be well!
Gina

RE: Healthy Eating- Weekly?

Lori---I have found that taking my Lab Retriever outside every night and brushing him helps alot with the hair. It is a pain in the neck to do in the evening when you're tired, but it only takes a few minutes and it saves a lot of vaccuuming time--and a dog-hairy house every time you look at it.

I make sure I back-brush him (against the 'grain' of the hair growth) to loosen it up and then brush him in the direction of the hair. I do up and down the legs gently too, and as far under the belly as possible. He LOVES it, and I get less yellow hair on my dark carpets. It seems to relax him at night too.
