There seem to be two types of "health food" store: those like GNC that are basically supplement stores, and those that carry a wider range of things, from supplements to frozen organic foods, to grocery store type foods, but natural and organic, herbal teas, 'natural" (though still not 'clean') cookies and baked goods and crackers, books and magazines, etc.
There used to be just a GNC near me, so I would drive 50 miles to get to the next nearest "grocery store"-type health food store. Luckily, a retired couple opened a 'grocery-store" type health food store here, and when they retired from that, their son and daughter-in-law took over the business. It's a nice little store, and they are more than willing to do special orders for regulars like me (unless they have to buy a dozen of some item I only want a small quantity of and they don't think anyone else would buy it).
