Health clubs in downtown Washington DC?

Aquajock

Cathlete
Good morning, my fellow Cathe-ites!

DH and I are planning a sight-seeing trip to Washington DC this coming September, and I'd like to know if anyone knows of any good clubs in the heart of DC that I could purchase some guest passes for. Hopefully something with a pool. We'll be staying at the downtown Capitol Hilton (apparently walking distance to the White House, so I may try to arrange a workout date with Dubya }( ).

Any Washingtonians know of anything?

THANKS!

Hi A-jock,

Do you belong to Video Fitness? I know that they had a class at a gym last year for DCAC(?) so you might want to post this question over there. (Also several people live in that general area.)

Once you find a gym, you can check to see if they have a website and print a free pass for the day!
Hey , if you can get it free, why not, right?;-)

There is a Bally Fitness in downtown DC. It is at 20th and L Streets, NW. The Capital Hilton is on on 16th Street (1001, I think). The Capitol Hilton has a new 11,000 square foot health club and day spa offering over 60 pieces of exercise, equipment and group exercise programs. It also has a spa that offers five treatment rooms for massage, facial and manicures. The club has
2 Stairmaster Free Runners
1 Stepmill
1 Concept II Rower
4 Precor Ellipticals
6 Lifecycles (Recumbent and Upright)
2 Crosstrainers
15 Spin Bikes
17 Pieces of Nautilus Strength Training Equipment
Free Weights from 1 to 100 Pounds
Aerobics/Exercise Studio
Personal Training

It doesn't look like they have a pool. the Bally's doesn't have a pool. You would have to go into Virginia or Maryland to access a pool with Bally's. If I find something, I'll post it.:)

I'll check with my husband...he knows D.C. like the back of his hand. I'll post if I find out anything interesting...hope you enjoy the trip...if things stay the way they are now, you'll either be baked by the heat (read: humidity), or washed away by one of the daily rainstorms. Phew! What a strange summer!

Hey A.
Why don't ya come about 35 miles up route 50 to Arnold Maryland and workout with me at the Big Vanilla! I know, it's too far. Hey I'd do it if you could swing it.
It's still weird to me to think that people come from afar to see D.C.! I have seen every inch of that place and it's almost in my back yard. Stay the heck away from Florida Ave. by the way. Very seedy area.
I love all of the art galleries. Natural History museum is great. FBI tour was always good. Space Museum is okay if you have never been. Boring on re-visits. Arlington Cemetary is a must see. Take the bus tour for that, along with other sites. By the way if you have time swing over to Baltimore's Inner Harbor. They have an aquarium that simply blows away every other aquarium I have ever been to. There's also ESPN Zone there. Both cities have Hardrock Cafes. The food is so-so but in Baltimore you can sit out on a deck that juts into the water.
Anyway, just some thoughts. Have a super time!!

Thanks again, Cathe-ites! The trip is coalescing; it seems that everyone who's every been to DC has their ideas on what to see, and DH and I are gonna have a heck of a time winnowing stuff out.

We absolutely plan on seeing the Viet Nam Memorial (DH is a Viet Nam combat veteran), the Smithsonian (that's a whole day right there), the Lincoln Memorial, Ford's Theatre, the Washington Memorial, the Holocaust Memorial. The Museum of Natural History and the aquarium ideas are great, Trev! Plus the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Center . . . plus some former colleagues of my father's . . . man, I really think I'm gonna be able to squeeze in a workout on top of all that?!

Thanks again!

Don't forget the National Art Museum...it belongs to the nation!

Fabulous collection. Also recommend Baltimore Museum of Art if you

get to "Charm City"...love to know who came up with that one. All of

Trevor's rec's are right on. Oh, and if you get to Balto., Science

Center. Fabulous!

I hope you're planning on staying for about a month!
