Head rushes

I get a lot of head rushes. Just getting up from the couch, or squatting down to inspect a grasshopper with my son. Anyone know what causes this and if it is bad...something I need to fix? I'm gonna ask my ob/gyn in a couple weeks at my appointment (not sure he'll know though).

Do you have low blood pressure? I have the same problem you describe and my doctor says it's due to low blood pressure. My normal blood pressure is about 95/65 and my doctor says this is fine (there aren't health problems associated with low blood pressure the way there are with high blood pressure). I find I'm a lot better if I drink tons of water (12-16 glasses per day especially in hot weather).

I do the same thing and have for years. I don't think I have actually discussed this with my doctor because I always felt it was due to my low blood pressure. It seems worse at times than others and I have to be careful bending over and then standing back up. Everything will go black and I get dizzy so I always keep it in mind so I won't fall out on the floor. My blood pressure is like Stebby's. I find that if I eat every two to three hours that the symptoms are not quite as bad.

A-ha!

Yes, I do have low blood pressure. In fact, when I had my miscarriage they kept waiting to discharge me cause my blood pressure wouldn't come up high enough for them. At least I know it's basically okay! Thanks guys!

Andrea,
Me, too. Every time I change positions (sit-stand, supine, prone, or sidelying-sit), I get dizzy and my vision goes dark for a couple of seconds. It's orthostatic hypotension, meaning a drop in BP when you change positions. Anyone can experience it, but it's usually more pronounced in people with lower BP to start with.
