HBO Thin

Anne,

I have seen this also. I was disturbed by much of the behavior; too much to list here. I do want to mention the part where one lady drew a picture of what SHE thought her body looked like and then was shown what her body looked like after she was traced. I think many women have a poor body image and I remember telling my husband that I don't think this problem is isolated to anorexic or bulemic women. How often have we looked in the mirror and commented only on the negative aspects of our bodies? SCARY!
I have a niece who I know has an eating disorder and there is not a damn thing I can do about it because everyone around her refuses to accept it. She is 5'8" or so and she weighs less than a hundred pounds at 16 years old. She insists on wearing size 11/12 with safety pins, all the while complaining about her "fat".
It is frightening when an eating disorder travels down through the generations. I honestly think that because her mother and grandmother have serious eating disorders that she never had a chance. She is to the point now where she will not listen to me and I am powerless to do anything for her. So sad...

I saw it .. very disturbing .. but very well depicted ..

I have 2 friends that suffer from exercise anorexia .. (eating disorder combined w/extreme exercise combined w/laxative abuse and forced throwing up) .. they are pitiful .. and I don't see how they can go on not eating and exercising like they do ..

they will run on the treadmill (5 - 10 miles at a time) and immediately get on the scale .. then go back and run some more .. they won't get off until they reach the magic number of calories burned .. it seem they both feed off one another's disease and compete to see who is the skinniest and who can go the furtherest -

these two are probably exercising 4 hours a day all cardio!!!

One probably is down to about 85 pounds .. we have all tried intervention .. (she will NOT go into a clinic b/c she does not believe she has a problem .. she just thinks she forgets to eat sometime) .. she will do better for a while but as soon as she gets around the other friend .. wham .. right back to where she was .. she has hair loss .. her skin is a greenish grey color .. her bones look as if she fell they would cut right thru her skin .. no muscle at all .. just skin .. and her abdomen is protruded (which in turn makes her think she is fat) .. her head is larger than her body (which in turn makes her think she is fat) .. it is just so sad.

Sad thing is she could watch that show and still say that wasn't her .. just a vicious cycling disease ... so sad!

If you dont have HBO, you can watch it in 10 minutes increments on youtube.

I'm sitting in my freezing basement and watching it right now.

Yes, I saw it several months ago. I thought it was very well done. If you have "HBO on Demand" you can watch it any time you want.

As I recall, it made me very angry at the health insurance industry. I think I'm starting to believe in socialized medicine.

Thanks for posting that it was on Youtube. I watched it this morning after reading this. Wow, I feel so bad for those girls. Such a vicious circle.

I saw it several months ago and it made me so sad. Those girls are addicted to what their doing just like a drug addict and an alcoholic. They can't stop. It's so hard. I agree with the health care issue. Why can't those in need get what they need? Uuugh!

I just think it is so sad that society (supermodels) have these girls thinking this looks good.It is scary. These young beautiful girls die from this everyday.

I feel bad for anyone or their families having to go through this.(i have to go throw up now).
I know one thing for sure. I will never weigh 89#.

I, too, saw this and I couldn't stop thinking about it for days.

I was especially moved by the blond girl whose mother also had an eating disorder.

I was just amazed that they could will themselves to throw up on command like that.
