having muscular arms

Cathlete
Yesterday I went to shop for holiday dresses for some upcoming events. The first dress I tried on was sleeveless. As soon as I looked at myself in the mirror, I couldn't believe how muscular my arms were. Now, I look at myself while working out, but to check my form, not study my appearance. At the time I thought to myself, do I really look feminine? When I see Cathe on tv, I've always thought she is very feminine and has a perfect shape. This morning I did PUB; and as my shoulders were on fire, I remembered how I looked in the dress ~ then it occurred to me.... could I be buying into the images we see in fashion magazines?

I think muscular women can look very feminine (at least I sure hope so for my own reasons ;-) ). Also I think femininity is something that comes from the inside. I mean, I agree with you--Cathe is both beautiful and feminine even though she's very muscular.

Forget the fashion mags--most of them either look like they've just escaped from a concentration camp or they're still in jr. high. I'd much rather be toned & muscular.

Hi susan

I agree with candi.

Be thankful for every muscle that you have.

I am 21,140pounds and just started with Cathe so I am soft and have no muscle at all. I think women look thinner when they have muscle.

Just be happy that you aren't soft and squishy

I also agree with Candi. Couldn't have put it better myself.

I mean, ok, the body-building women that do the competitions, they're WAY too muscular for my taste, and I don't think they look feminine. But Cathe and crew all look very feminine and they have a lot of muscles.... What I wouldn't give to have a body like JAI's!!!?!

I love "upper body" muscle, especially the arms.......back comes second. A toned upper body on a woman looks great wearing sleevless and strapless dresses or tops

My DH thinks a toned upper body is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry sexy on a woman, more so than other parts of her body.

Work those arms out girl!!!!

I know exactly what you mean but don't worry, you are fine! I think that sometimes when you see yourself in "real clothing" (as opposed to workout wear or a t-shirt) and notice your muscles, you may be a little shocked. I was in a class at my gym the other day, that I haven't been to in about a year, and when I looked in the mirrors (they are EVERYWHERE!), I noticed that my arms are much more toned than they were the last time I was there. For a second, it surprised me and then I was like "is it too much!?" Nah, you look great when you can show off a nice, toned body that you work hard to maintain! Buy the sleeveless dress and watch everyone check you out ;)

Ah good point Marion--I also think a nice rippling back can be very attractive, also a shapely pair of shoulders.

You know it's funny--some people, like my boss, prefer women who are, well, voluptuous (once he said something about how sexy Marilyn Munroe was, & I was like "but she's huge! She was like a size 14!" And my boss's girlfriend said, "I'M a size 14." OOPS!) and some people like "buff & cut." The old "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" thing I guess.

There is a t-shirt I've seen at gymnastics websites (my daughter is a gymnast) that says "pushups make you pretty." I wanted to buy it for my daughter, but it's pink so she wouldn't wear it.

I would love muscular arms. I'm getting there- can't wait. I love the look.

Not only will they be checking you out, but the women will be green in envy. They want to have arms that look like your's!!!! Congratulations in having your hard work show itself.

I understand how you feel. I have often felt the same when looking at myself in a sleeveless top. I also am always concerned that my arms look too "thick", but then I'll be carrying something and can see the muscle definition and that makes me feel good. I have very fair skin so unfortunately the "tone" doesn't show as well and sometimes I think that I look like my arms are just fat. Ah, the mind games we play with ourselves. As long as DH continues to walk by me while I'm doing push ups and says "Wow, nice muscles" then I'm happy.:7

I wish my arms looked more muscular. My build is very similar to Cedie's in the upper body...you can see the muscles when working them, but it's a constant struggle.
The irony is, I love doing upper body work the most.
Ruth:)

I don't think I look muscular when I see myself in the mirror, but I look at pictures of myself and I'm like, OMG, is that me??! I guess I have the upper body (minus the boobs!) of a fitness model, but unfortunately I'm so fair that you can't really see the definition. I think one of the reasons why Cathe looks so buff in this Hardcore series is because she has a deeper tan than usual.

But even the fashion magazine images are toned. The standard for beauty these days is to be toned. Celebrities work out like crazy. I dream of having Janet Jackson abs. The standard for beauty today is much healthier and stronger than it used to be, and I think it's great. Have you seen Demi Moore? She's almost as old as me and she looks dynamite! I am totally inspired by her look. It gives an old bag like me hope. ;)

In regard to the comment about cathe looking as she does in the hardcore series. If i'm wrong i appologise, but i don't think i am. I'm pretty sure that Cathe diets down for video shoots. I remember seeing Karen Voight once in person, and in Videos she's always so super lean yet in person she looks more natural, soft(er). And i think that Cathe probably diets down for videos and then loosens up afterwards. To be that lean year round i'm assuming wouldn't be healthy. I don't think it's possible to be that lean and still get your period.

You are correct. She tends to eat clean and drop around 10 pounds prior to video production. However, she is a wee one in person.
